Tributes and comments indicate how much Senior Circus captivated sense of humor, love, and respect from/for many who enjoyed his prose online or lucky enough to cross paths of his easy living free spirited ways.

Last time I had the pleasure of seeing Circus was at Don Gordo’s official retirement party at Hard Rock Hooters in Fort Lauderdale. Don Gordo was so happy to see his old friend make a special effort to fly in from Jacksonville just to be part of his celebrations.

Circus the Iconic persona and pillar CRT brother of truths, fables, and comedic satire. His respect and honor among friends will always be legendary!

A captive story teller with many laced with a bit of humorous self-loathing twist and turns. His writing skills of a seasoned wordsmith had the abilities to make you wonder who this man was behind the mask of written words, emotional thoughts and barrels of laughter.

Circus the Man the Legend and Friend… Godspeed

Had the pleasure of meeting Circus a couple of occasions in the mid 2000s after reading his post which were among the most clever on th crt

"Damn if I'm going to repeat this shit again. I need a drink.
I've been drinking vodka every day for 45 years and I have certainly never found it to be habit forming."

You can always tell when he was serious he would remove the tag line from the post

Alas Time claims all .... Sad Sad News and a well written tribute El Ciego... I knew Bill back before CRT existed and spent time with him in Jacksonville when I was up there several Years ago. Conventional would not be a word used to describe him but that is what made him so unique. He as a kind hearted soul who would make you laugh, and at the same time provide you with wisdom that would never be forgotten.

May he rest in peace with the other CRT brothers who have passed and moved to a better place. I know somewhere in the clouds there's a round table of members who have passed and Circus sits at the head of it telling stories with the rest of our fallen Amigos.

RIP MY FRIEND & PURA VIDA IN THE AFTERLIFE!

Sad news indeed. R.I.P. Circus. I always enjoyed his humor and wit (Circus the Younger, Shitass the Cat, Circus Cardboard Inns, vodka minis, etc.)

RIP Circus
Still to this date one of the finest and most talented dancers ever to perform on my stage at Sportsmens Lodge.

I met Circus several years ago as we both stayed at the Presidente, and during one of those stays we had rooms near each other on the 2nd floor above the kitchen. The banging of the pots and pans irritated us both and he asked me one early evening if he could buy me a soup. I knew Bill at that time but hadn't really had the chance to talk to him. We sat at the rail of the News Café and just had a normal conversation, I knew then that there was something unique and different about him.

One memory that sticks out is a night at the DR in which he asked me if I wanted to play a game. I said "of course" not realizing what the game could entail. I am typically conservative by nature and tend to stay out of the spotlight, so he sits me down and says "the game is to wander into the woman's bathroom and act lost". I was apprehensive at first but then said to myself "what the hell, you probably only live once....and it's Circus"!! Most the girls just started laughing and some had that shocked look on their face as he was asking them where the bar was located. After a few minutes we just went back to the table and had a drink and laughed as another memory was just born. 8)

Bill sent me a few kind PM's after Paco's passing as he knew we were close that I really appreciated. RIP mi amigo and CRT Brother.

I meet Circus several years ago . remember riding back in a cab from The Aloki now the SL with him and Twargt and I belive it was him who slammed the door on my thumb getting out at the Presidente. A good man an always a Seminole Go Noles. I remember him saying that last time I ran into him it was his last visit.

I never had the pleasure of meeting him but I always enjoyed his posts. I went into the search engine yesterday and entered his name as the author, it came back with some 80 pages of matches. Took a few hours yesterday and read through many. If you have some free time and want to relive what San Jose was like many years ago it is an interesting journey with characters that can never be replaced.
He had his own unique brand of humor and wasn't afraid to express himself.

The afterlife just got a lot more interesting with his addition.

Thanks to some long time friends who alerted me to Circus's passing. I first met Circus in the years before CRT when we communicated and met through the fore-runner of web-site (abbreviations CRS); there was a time when many of us stayed at the Hotel Morazon (Circus, Dino, Vegas Bob, LVSteve, Pidd and others); I can only echo the tributes of so many who have accurately described Circus.
I can add that, behind that hard drinking tough guy demeanor, Circus was a very sensitive guy and I recall a time when he had a crush on a chica and had brought a nice present for her. She treated him like dirt and I could see it got to him for awhile; but then he became philosophical about it and was able to laugh at himself.

A little bit of history is that I believe Circus was the last investor into the Villalobos Brother's imvestment / Ponzi scheme. As I recall, Circus invested 10K with the Brothers on a Friday afternoon and that was on top of what he had already invested and had let the interest carry over. I think it was the next Monday that the Brother's investment scheme was busted with one of the brothers disappearing and the other ultimately tried and incarcerated. I know that loss of a big chunk of his savings hurt him badly and he went into a period of depression after that - but as the years passed he was philosophical about it.
A year or so after the end of the Brother's scheme a bunch of us had a birthday party dinner for Circus in San Jose one night and he said, "F... it, which of you in this room has not made a bad investment in life" and we all had to admit he was right.
I was really happy for Circus a few years ago when he was hired to do building inspections and had a job with a secure paycheck, etc.

As I recall Circus I think of the song that Frank Sinatra made famous, "My Way."

"And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
My friend, I'll say it clear
I'll state my case, of which I'm certain
I've lived a life that's full
I've traveled each and every highway
But more, much more than this
I did it my way
Regrets, I've had a few
But then again, too few to mention
I did what I had to do
And saw it through without exemption
I planned each charted course
Each careful step along the byway
And more, much more than this
I did it my way
Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall
And did it my way
I've loved, I've laughed and cried
I've had my fill my share of losing
I did it my way."

No question in my mind that Circus was unique among us and along with many of you I have lasting memories of Circus showing up at the DR in that clown costume channeling Emmitt Kelly!

He was a good man that I was lucky to know. As in other posts by you guys, he took me under his wing and showed me the ins and outs of navigating around Costa Rica. We spent many hours gambling and whoring and he was one of the funniest guys I ever knew - in CR and the US.
In Chapter 3 of my book "A Costa Rican Caper", he is the character, Dick Banks. His military exploits are described in this chapter. I interviewed him at length.
Please take care of this special man up there, Lord.
LVSteve

As I said up top, RIP, Circus Bill. As sad as this whole trend was, it is so nice to once again hear from so many of the old guys on this board. You guys brought back so many good Circus memories.
A special shout to Vegas Bob, Easy, Ciego, Orange, True Sportsman, and Ed. I hope that the years have been good to you all. I miss Costa Rica and I miss you guys. Those five years of my life were special
LVsteve
PS: And Circus made many of those days truly special.

A memorial service for Bill will be held on Saturday, march 18, 2017 in front of the main lifeguard station on the beach at Jacksonville. The service will be held at 8:00 in the morning, after which Bill's ashes will be committed to the sea, per his wishes. This informal ceremony welcomes all Bill's friends, and I urge you to attend if you can. I too will do my best to be there. Although I haven't been told this by Bill's family, I am certain that Bill would if he were still with us, appreciate small memorial donations to any veteran's service organization, including the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wounded Warriors Project and/or the American Legion. Bill was always very concerned about the welfare of returning veterans of war. I hope to see you on the sand in front of the lifeguard station on Saturday morning, 3/18/2017. Thanks.
