Hey new guy here! did a good bit of reading on the site here and seems hotels are kind of limited?
Wondering what some of the best tica friendly no extra fee hotels are besides SL and Del to stay?

Traveling down Dec 11-14 And 1st thought was Hotel La Amistad,, talked to Rudy and he seemed like a good guy but didn't sound too confident saying he only had small queen rooms on 1st floor?

Define "limited", "best" and "tica friendly".

If you mean American style hotels with amenities typical of a Hilton or Marriott, the major international hotel chains have properties in the San Jose metro area.

The trick is most will not allow "visitors" unless they are registered AND/OR you pay an exorbitant fee for each visit.

Not to mention most are quite a bit away (in travel time as opposed to distance) from the Gulch.

For a comprehensive list of hotels in the Gulch that cater to mongers, check Orange's Newbie thread in the Newbie's section.

2nd the Taormina recommendation. American standard hotel with very reasonable prices and of course chica friendly.

Due to cancellation was able to get a nice room at my first choice Hotel La Amistad - Thanks Matt!

Who all will be down Dec 11 - 14th ?

I'm flying solo on my first trip down in search of a cure for my divorce? :D Even those there have been local anecdotes here in the states I'm hoping multiple dosage of the south American cure will be most effective..

I'm not a doctor I'm just bored at work and it sounded good
as well as looking forward to my first trip!

You have gone to the right place. I came down after my divorce on 2001 and been coming back for 15 years. The Sportmans Lodge is 1 block down the hill. I stayed in LA room 202 and its a very nice large room

Taormina is very good and they now have the A/C fixed. They still will give the discount for CRT but not advertising it they are trying to look main stream but are still Tica friendly and they always have a few ladies at the bar in the casino.

I booked Taormina, arriving this Friday. They are very responsive via email, convert currency at a fair rate, no chica fees, poker and gambling if you're bored. For me it was a no brainer!

2 nights for ~140 (4th floor) and free valet for my rental.

Wanted to say thanks to the staff and owners of La Amistad! Rooms clean, food good and cant wait to go back. Solo trip and the Amistad is a nice low key nice place full of friends you haven't met yet! I hung out with and talked to some good guys from day one! Went to the talked about bars and massage parlors on the site here and had a blast!

Does the Taormina have a full restaurant at this time? I see on their website that they serve breakfast and they also have an "executive menu" until 3:00 but I didn't see anything about a restaurant for lunch and dinner. Any update on that?

Secondly, there's a reference to the casino on their website. I thought I had read something that the casino was closed. Any update there?

Lastly. I used to stay fairly regulalrly there when it was the Amon Plaza (6 or so years ago). Are the rooms essentially the same as when it was Amon Plaza or has there been any significant renovations since that time.

Thank You.

1) Full menu (Italian), restaurant open until 9-10p, after that you can get served food at the casino bar (limited but pretty good menu) until pretty late.
2) It's open and pretty busy.
3) 4th floor rooms have been completely redone, with new beds, furniture, bathrooms, and A/C. 3rd floor rooms are the same old ones, no A/C. Don't know about 2nd. My understanding is they will remodel every floor eventually.
