First solo trip. Couldn't think of a better way to ring in the new year. Wing cancelled. Will be staying at the SL. Anyone want to grab a beer?

Hey man - I am planning on the same timing. Still deciding between SL and LA (stayed there last trip). I am in my 40s and can speak Spanish well.

You have chosen a particularly slow time to monger in SJO...do your homework ahead of time, many places in town close down during that week. Good luck and have fun! 8)

I would suggest that you line up a date for the January First.

There were some ladies around (not many) New Year's Eve, but the next day it was like an alternate universe. There was nothing around; no traffic; no dogs; no one sleeping on the street. It was very, very strange.

Health & happiness to all.........

I would say line up a date to be with you on New Years eve and day. Just like some of the seasoned guys said, there isn't much around on those days. People do more like house parties and hang out with family.

First trip for me was 12-29-15 to 1-4-16 and the town was empty aside from the central areas. There were chicas around but not in quantity. With that said there were also fewer guys so the ratio was fair. I met some quality chicas at DR and SL that i never saw again in the next few trips in the subsequent months.
I was at the DR for NYE and although they had balloon drop, it was almost a non event ringing in the new year. I lost track of time and only realized it was 2min til midnight when i asked someone the time. 2 min later, there was a hollow chorus of happy new year and the balloon drop. For the next 10 min it was balloon pop after balloon pop and annoying as phuck. I guess that was their 'fireworks'.

Just remember you are on vacation (tranquilo) and enjoy the atmosphere!
