I'm staying at tha SL as I always do in February. In a last minute development one of my very good clients has decided that he would like to join me together with his girlfriend. I need a couple of suggestions of a "non-mongering" "proper" hotel in the Downtown area. No hookers...providers...etc..etc.. He's a wealthy guy so looking for something more upscale. I remember there's a large hotel near Ave. Central but forgot the name of it. Grand Hotel maybe or something like that. Any suggestions appreciated. I've stayed years ago at Doubletree Cariari which was nice but prefer something closer to Downtown.

Off the top of my head:
Hotel Grano de Oro 2 blocks from Paseo Colon
Hilton Garden Inn in Sabana Norte
Tryp on Paseo Colon
Crowne Plaza

Holiday Inn San Jose-Aurola. Maybe not completely chica-free, but almost because of the high chica fee.

Presidente is booked for the nights I need as is Grano de Oro.

Couple places that do still have availability are:

Dunn Inn
Santo Tomas

Any comments on either of those 2?

Dunn Inn is not what I would call "upscale". However, it is s clean, reasonably priced, free of hookers, and across the street from Taormina (another option, but there will be the occasional provider sitting at the bar or in the lobby).

No comment on the other one.

For what you are looking for in the downtown area, I'd say your best bet would be the Radisson that is about 3 blocks north of Zona2. Very nice with pools, bar, restaurant, parking and no 'guests'. Far enough out of the gulch your friend will never know but close enough to walk to from any gulch hangout.

I'll 'second' two hotels mentioned...

Radisson
Holiday Inn

I've narrowed my choices down to Don Carlos and Dunn Inn. Any strong feelings either way between those 2?

Thx.

Don Carlos is much nicer than the Dunn Inn, IMHO.

Have you been inside the Dunn Inn? I stayed there a few times years ago. There is nothing about the hotel that I would call upscale. Some of the employees were nice and efficient, but I think maybe only one is still there.
