Review of Casa69:
I found this hotel on Expedia.ca that offered rooms at $42.00 USD per night. I emailed the hotel directly and the owner Donna (Canuck lady from Toronto) quoted me $34.00 per night tax incl. paying in full on check-in. I booked 7 nights in Nov/2016. The hotel is made up of 2 separate building one across the street from other. The main hotel has 3 floors including a reception desk with 24hr clerk plus free computer to use and free phone using MagicJack service. The main hotel has a breakfast area and a lounge area with large screen TV. Main hotel consists of 3 floors; 1st has 5 rooms, 2nd floor with 3 rooms(6,7,8) and 3rd floor with 2 rooms (very popular) and a outdoor patio with a nice view of the city and mountains. I stayed in room 6, which had a queen size bed, private bath, very small frig and a old style tube TV & electronic safe. With 2 or 3 english tv channels. There is a train 2 blocks over from the hotel that runs 5am to 10pm blowing its horn at intersections. The other building is 10 rooms only. Its a 20min walk down hill to downtown and 25min walk to San Pedro mall. I used taxi at night and almost all drivers had no idea of its location even when I used the business card that had spanish driving instructions. Breakfast is tropical incl. Coffee, fruits, juice, bread & jams. They have a full kitchen with a breakfast menu of eggs bacon/ham for $5.00, omlette or pancakes with bacon/ham for $7.00. Owner has 2 cats and 5 dogs that live at the hotel. Web site

Pros:
- no chica fee they must sign-in
- mostly a family hotel
- staff are english speaking and provide great service and info
- comfortable atmosphere
- owner is on-site to help with any needs
- smokers use the 3rd floor patio instead of having to go out to the street
Cons:
- dogs...trains..and more dogs. Dogs bark at night and greet you at the front door. They are friendly.
- front gate uses a outside keypad & inside keypad which you enter a code to open the door. A pain to use, upgrade to a swipe card would be better
- issue for ppl with pet allergies
- taxi drivers shake their head trying to find the hotel and usually get lost driving around
My POV.....I would not stay there again based on dogs and taxi drivers.
