Folks im returning to CR October 27th to the 31st. High traffic time due Halloween. My favorite, Dunn Inn is no longer chica friendly. Everywhere is booked. My choices are limited to the Cocoon hotel or Hotel Vesuvio. Unless you guys are aware of a hidden room somewhere. I booked both hotels and plan to cancel 1 in the next few days. Which is the best option? Just FYI. I need a relatively comfortable environment and decor. AC is also somewhat neccessary.

Thanks

You could stay next to the HDR at the Sleep Inn. They dont seem to be booked for your time frame.

Thanks. I considered them but the $35 dollar chica fee is a detterent. Or did the policy change?

Yes you are right there is a $25 chica fee. Something to consider.

$25 sounds a bit better than 35 but still not ideal. Definitely considering biting the bullet and taking sleep inn.

Toured Vesuvio, but didn't book a room. Not bad in a pinch and cheap rates. A 1 minute walk to La Amistad or the SL. Was told no chica fee but don't know for sure.

I stayed at Vesuvio last Halloween on a spur of the moment trip. No chica fee and the staff was very nice and accommodating. My room had two twin beds and was clean but cramped. Wifi worked ok at my room near the front of the hotel. No AC and if decor is your thing then stay somewhere else. They show a nice room on their webpage but I walked the entire place during cleaning time and never found it. The location was great for the SL party. Not terrible for a day. Lots of loud German tourist when I was there.

A lot of flakey guys make multiple reservations and end up cancelling some or all of them or not even going. I have known a few of them. Get on a waiting list for the place you want to stay and hope for a cancellation.

Vesuvio is more convenient, but that is all. There are no air-conditioned rooms. Cocoon is in an area where you should take a taxi at night, but no problem walking in the daytime. They have some rooms with an air conditioner. The decor is good, with a large lobby area, a restaurant, and a bar. Wi-fi is available at both places. Both have free breakfast, I think it is better at Cocoon. Both are chica friendly with no fee. Cocoon limits to one chica at a time. 360 is one block from Cocoon, and Zona 2 is three blocks. The beds at Cocoon at better. I have stayed at both places, and I prefer Cocoon.

How would you rate the cleanliness of the Cocoon particurarly the bathroom? It gets bad reviews for cleanlinesss on tripadvisor etc. Also when last did you stay at the cocoon?

If just for a few days, bite the bullet and take the Sleep Inn. Central and modern rooms. Walking to everything.

Look at the Hotel Marigato....Avenida Central at Calle 3. It's on the walking street....so taxis are one block away. Ask about guests.

I stayed there in August of this year. Everything was clean in my room. The shower curtain was a little too small for the area it had to cover, so water got on the bathroom floor. The maids took care of that every day. They seem to have a limited supply of towels, usually had to wait until the afternoon (after laundry) to get clean towels. But that is standard procedure in most hotels I've stayed at in San Jose.
