Jaco is very enticing. I mean look at the facts: hot as balls weather, overpriced mercenary chicas, lack of any concrete daytime chica options (yes, you can get numbers from the night before... blah blah blah), and psycho drug-dealing, gun-carrying boyfriends that want to kill you.

Where do I sign up?

2nd time in CR and the first time in jaco i saw a loud drunk guy get led out of the back of the old beatle bar by security
they stumbled otw out and security baaically pile drove the guys face into the cement floor
knocked him out, blood, big scene but nobody did anything
a guys said "im a doctor" and pronounced him dead but i could see him breathing and asked someone to get ice
he was trying to get up and another guy was helping me hold him down as this dude cried in pain
medics show up in 20 minutes and take no care of his neck and just load him out
everything goes back to party mode
that was my first taste of why i want to maintain control of my buzz in another country
does not pay to be wasted and unaware

There`s a ton of wisdom there. When it`s time to go home it`s time to go home, especially in a foreign land. But perhaps we can add, if some guy starts pulling on a chica you are with and it isn`t your wife or girlfriend (a real girlfriend that is) then skip the knight in shinning armour and let him pull... Hypothetical of course as I don`t know for sure what happened in that most unfortunate incident...

Very sad story and totally unnecessary. Shooter was probably high. So the dead guy was a citizen of CR? Was he a tico too?

I haven't been in a few years but use to go all often. Jaco has better looking girls overall. But he gulch has more options for dining, bars etc. There use to be a few girls that trickle into the Cocal after lunch. Similar to sportsmans.

To each his own as they say.

Well as of the moment there is a murderer on the loose in Jaco. If the information posted is correct he killed person over a dispute. Just hope you don't bump into the same chica, or someone similar, when your there.

Also, read Bennett's post he lives there and he says it's not safe. If you go be extra careful.

+1, you feel sorry for that guy and his friends and family. What a shitty way to die. He died for nothing the chica runs off with the murderer so why bother getting involved in the first place?

The fact of the matter is we are expendable to this crowd. Someone know's who committed this murder and they just dont want to say anything to the police.

Jaco seems like it's a rough mix right now drug dealers, whores, gangs of hard core chicas who look to score off tourist. Maybe not the best place to go right now, speaking for myself I would stick with the gulch.

Makes good sense.

Always remember that money will get you out of most situations as well. As soon as the situation escalated into violence, he should have told the chica to shut her mouth, and apologized to the dealer for the scene, and offered to, in some way, put money in his pocket. If the chica turned out to belong to the dealer, he should have apologized and walked away alone. If he'd used a drip of common sense, he'd still be alive.

However, he had the gringo chip on his shoulder, and figured that a show of brevity and bravery will see him through. What makes it worse is that he clearly knew Costa Rica well, and still tried to bully his way. Eventually, you're going to come across a nutcase. It just ain't worth it.

Sad to say this but violence occurs nearly anywhere at anytime, one murder in a touristy area isn't going to affect Jaco in the long run. maybe a few people will change their plans, the police will more visible for a period of time but in the not so distant future things will return to the same as they were just before this incident. It is the world we live in today.

Violent crime against people doesn't keep tourists ( or natives) from NYC, the beaches in Mexico, South Beach, Rio, Cali or any other location, it won't keep them from Jaco either.
