Does anyone know of any strip clubs in or around the downtown San Jose that would be considered safe to visit? I would bring my gf with me.

This is what I have learned through research and discussion (I don't bother with strip clubs - the Hotel del Ray or the Sportsmen's Lodge or Zona II or etc. provide me faster routes to the desired result without the added expense - in other words, I think it's a waste of time).

Strip clubs in Costa Rica are not like strip clubs in the US. Basically, in Costa Rica the demarcation is between 'expensive' and 'rip-off'.

In Costa Rican strip clubs, the dancer chicas Phuck - if you are willing to pay them. The clubs have 'rooms' (which vary from 'not nasty' to 'Phuck me that's nasty'). You pay for the 'room' and the chica and Phuck her. Of course, there's all the normal strip club BS (cover charge, expensive drinks, expensive dancer drinks) - but, unlike a US strip club, you're going to get pu*sy along with the normal wallet phucking.

Club Alcasar on Ave. 7 is mentioned as "not a rip off". "Tango India" is mentioned as "a rip off".

Go to the Hotel del Rey. Sit down in the Blue Marlin bar with your GF. Pick one - or let one pick you.

As to 'safe'? Are you going to walk in flashing wads of dollars and wearing big gold chains and a Rolex while shouting at everyone in angry English?

With due precautions, yes (I wouldn't walk to Alcasar at night).
