Exactly right! In my opinion the authorities in the DR handled it about right. Banned him from the country and sent him home. However the morons in CR decided to punish him more than they would a person who committed a much more serious offenses. Bunch of vindictive morons IMHO.
What is moronic about what the CR government is doing? Harsh? Yes. Spiteful and vindictive? Yes. Excessive? Probably, yes. But moronic? I don't see how.
The CR government has nothing to lose by keeping some old gringo whoremonger in prison. It is not like the US government is going to file a protest. This isn't giving them any bad press, other than to MAYBE scare away a few other mongers from coming there.
What the CR government gets from this is ONE guy that they can point to to those COSTA RICAN CITIZENS who HATE what we do. My bet is that there are even some in the TOURIST INDUSTRY that want Dave to be made an example of. For a while, there seems to be a greater emphasis on making CR a family destination. Sites like Dave's (and this one, to be honest) could give folks searching for a family vacation (i.e. WIVES) a negative (although accurate) impression of Costa Rica. If this prosecution not only stops Dave from posting about CR, but SCARES THE HELL out of others from posting about prostitution in CR, IMHO the CR Government will consider that a huge win.
It's all about the 'win'.
