I am flying to San Jose using Copa. I know on to first leg to Panama my carry on will have no problem fitting in the overhead. What I am concerned about is the flight from Panama to SJO, I noticed they are using a Embraer 190 which is a little smaller. I read online the overhead bins are also a little smaller. It is certainly not the end of the world but I would prefer not to have to check the bag on the way to Costa Rica. I love the convenience of just a carry on, get in get out and be on my way! Has anyone flown on this flight from Panama to SJO and did you experience any problems with the overhead bins fitting you luggage. The carry on I use is not the largest it 21x14x9.

One thing I would recommend before you leave is try to upgrade to first class. They do it by auction at last minute. Cheap! Definetly worth it since so many people do not know about it. Check their site.

Yes, indeed. I bid on the longer legs of my itinerary. I always bid the minimum, and almost every time, I get the upgrade.

This may not help but then again it might. My connection to Houston is always on am Embraer RJ145 & I have nerver had an issue with the overhead bins or putting carry-ons unde the seat in front of my feet.

Isn't the minimum bid $125 for a flight from the US to Panama? That, in addition to the original ticket price?

It starts at a certain level but you can lower it.

Glad to hear that the carry on should be no issue. Just really didn't want to have to check it in Panama. Just a convenience thing I like to travel with just a carry on and backpack.

If it won't fit, it would be a gate check at worst. You get it back as you debaord the plane.

Larger carryons will have to go sideways on the Embraer planes, 190 and others. I have done it many time on the ord-pty-mde route.

Was concerned on first trip with Copa a few years back as well, turned out to be a non issue. Would recommend getting on the place as early as possible or you could end up as Orange said above checking it from the plane door and recovering it on deboarding. They do fill up fast.

For accuracy. My carryon is a 24 inch, 4 wheel. (max is supposed to be 22 now) . Been getting away with it so far.
