I went through an incident with a chica at the Dunn Inn in about six years ago. I handled it as quietly as possible by paying the tipsy b*tch off to get out when I couldn't hold her to our initial agreement. I've also lost some cash, a cell phone, and a camera over the years. These are issues most places would prefer not to deal with. I'm sorry to see that mongering has been done in at the Dunn Inn.
I'm kinda/sorta uneasy about the Taormina going the way of the Dunn Inn. There have been some changes since the place reverted to its owner and the floor plan was changed. They no longer seem to have a person dedicated to our segment of their clientele like Guy or Helmuth. If Guy is around you'll be lucky to find him in his out of the way second floor office. If there are any chicas at all, you'll find them hidden in back at the ass end of the building at the bar. The convenience store with the mongering goodies is gone and I've been advised not to ask about the goodies at the front desk or elsewhere. To me that is a major sign, a fundamental shift in policy. While they might still be nominally chica friendly, they are not quite as friendly anymore and I'm sure there are reasons for that.
When a story related to The Trade crops up on television here in The States it is almost always couched in terms of "h*man tr*ff*cking." Generally, if any follow up on such a story appears, it almost never amounts to anything more than a case of simple P4P. Still, it appears that HT is now a great way to justify bigger budgets and influence peddling overseas in places like (you guessed it) CR. If places like the DI no longer cater to certain activities we enjoy it's very likely they've succumbed to some kind of pressure from the local authorities and it wouldn't be a stretch to say these very authorities are likely benefiting from greater resource allocation from the US gov't for being more aligned with US policies.
Very sad, and very unjust for us and the chicas trying to support their families. As usual, many of these do-gooder programs hurt the people that they ostensibly say they are trying to benefit.
