When I heard of his arrest only thing I thought was Thank god!

He completely ruined Sosua, DR which use to be amazing. He was about %50 percent fault with local government the other 50%.

San Jose been on a downward turn even prior to him, but he sure in the hell didn't help it.

He's a disease for this lifestyle plain and simple.

All the good scenes that have been ruined were from exposure. Only ones I know immune to this is Thailand/Amsterdam.

You don't know the glory days of Sosua. Think of it like the good old Del Ray days.
Dave's dumbass hit Sosua right around the time the new clean up mayor was elected.
He was targeted along with a few other foreign guys, one owner of D'Latin, and La Passion owner.
He was actually detained in Puerto Plata airport twice. First time his camera and computer was taken. He never reported on this one. Second time he was kicked out the country and didn't visit again for 6-9 months. Around this time he went to costa rica and bashed Sosua but the damage was already done.

His website/blogs generated interest that Sosua government did not want. Lots of black guy thugs from New York/Chicago ect. started making this there stomping ground. More incidents were happening regularly. I have nothing against blacks btw but I hate nigger/thugs that think they are balling with $100 a night.

I said he was about 50% at fault for it's downturn, other half was the asshole mayor arresting girls by the busload and the Haiti exodus.

If he never went/reported on the Sosua scene I can assure the the scene would still be pretty amazing. It would not be as bad as it is now.

If you think now is good you, have no idea what good was.

Although it's hard to argue that Sosua isn't as wild as it used to be 10-15 years ago, I still had a dream vacation there last year and I love it's funky vibe--thugs not included. The only thing holding me back from popping for a week's trip now is the $ 950 ticket DTW/POP, and sure it is cheaper than CR once you get there, but that ticket price is hard to swallow. Hell, I saw a ticket to BKK for a grand. Also, in my last three trips to Sosua, I have hung with Haitianas primarily, and I am not sure of their availability since the expulsion. Not saying anything bad about CR, other than it has gotten so expensive over the last 3 dozen trips I have made there in 15 yrs. My compromise for the last 4 years has been Cuba(-but not for everyone) and Panama

The effects or damage done by Cuba Dave to Sosua have nothing to do with race. Since the majority of people in the DR have have at least some African ancestry if you don't like blacks why even go there.

I just recently returned from Sosua and it is swinging at the moment but that can change in a hurry. There have been many crackdowns in Sosua and certainly Cuba Dave was mostly responsible for a major one. This crackdown closed down the large FS massage parlors in Sosua and the towns most popular bar D'Latins, and they have yet to re-open. It also put the town in constant fear for several months with several other closings until things got swinging again.

The reason why he was responsible is that he gave an interview about the happenings in Sosua to the US media and although it did not make a splash in the US, the DR authorities got a hold of it and they do not want this kind of publicity. The interview was also full of lies and exaggerations. He was also holding open town meetings describing the scene in Sosua to almost anyone including people who would prefer that things like that would not take place in Sosua. Then of course the government found out about his web-site and they didn't like that either. He was finally thrown out of the DR which is why he returned to CR. The government of the DR, I am sure communicates with the government of CR about his arrest and they would likely prefer that he stays in prison in CR. They certainly don't want him returning to the DR or going back to the US to resume his web-site.

But the current situation in Sosua is very tenuous. There has just been a mayoral election in Sosua and the official tally is under question and it might take longer than the Bush-Gore election to declare who thr winner is. The Current mayor is said to have won by less than one percentage point and of course she is believed to want to shut down Sosua. The closest challenger Willie(El Chapo) is the owner of D'Latins and of course he wants the town to be wide open. He has asked for a recount. Then there is a third candidate who is a woman who wants to throw all her votes to Willie which would make him the easy winner in this election. But of course there is a big dispute over the election laws. So stay tuned because in Sosua anything can change in a hurry. But most certainly Cuba Dave was responsible for many of the problems they are having there and his interview gave the current Mayor much support or else we probably wouldn't have to still worry about her.
