Hi All,

Was reading the Sunday paper today and read an article about these three and it indicates that one of them had their devices confiscated in 2009ish timeframe as he was leaving San Diego airport for a trip to London. He was told that they were looking and investigating for Ch*ld pornography. They copied everything and then returned the devices in a couple of months. Then, they were charged years later based on information from the devices. The case was settled recently where they pled guilty to one felony and paid fines.

My concern, based on above, is that all mongerers could be trapped to some degree in this way. It does not seem that the CBP has much oversight and it makes us all at much risk for harassment.

Just info that I wanted to pass on. Would appreciate hearing about any personal experiences.

Have a Great Day,

Dave

Was able to find article that I was reading online: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/new ... port-case/

When things like this happen on a "random" interaction with Federal LE, it isn't really "random".

The Union-Tribune story bears that out. The individual was a target of a sanctions evasion investigation and the "Ch*ld porn" seizure was a ruse.

Quote:
More than three years later, it turns out the suspicion weren’t based on anything. It was a ruse, designed not to reveal what agents were really after: evidence that Rafiee and the company he founded with his father Hassan — Pasha International — was selling goods to Iran, in violation of sanctions barring trade with that country.

If you're involved in bad shit, you are probably at high risk of being a target of a LE investigation.

Don't be involved in bad shit.

I flew from Medellin to Toronto and back two weeks ago. Other than a few immigration questions about my wife, I never had trouble entering the US, Canada or any other country in the world in over 55 years of international travel. When I landed in Lester Pearson airport in Toronoto at the end of last month, I was questioned by one of their border security people when I left the immigration booth. After retrieving my luggage, the guy at the exit told me to make a right because an agent wanted to talk to me. Well, the "talk" took almost two hours (while my friend waited in the cell lot for me). During the talk, every item I brought with me was scrutinized and analyzed. Even the metal frames of my suitcases were x-rayed. First, he asked me why I lived in Colombia. I told him why not? And explained that I was a retired American living in Colombia. He retorted, I can see by your passport that you're an American. Throughout the interrogation, I could see his search moved from drugs... then to weapons and explosives with a detailed swab of every square inch of my bags and clothing... and then finally the pornography. He looked at every picture on my tablet, notebook and sent my camera to a lab for a detailed examination. I answered his questions forthright, and did not pull any punches. 15 minutes into the interrogation, I got the sense that this guy realized there was nothing to find, but nevertheless, he continued with the "inspection" to chew up his shift. Halfway through, he granted me permission to let me text my buddy and clue him on what was going down. Finally, he looked at me, and said "OK... pack up your stuff and go out that back door." He left, went into the office and came out with a cup of coffee. That was it. No, "Thank you, for your cooperation" or "Sorry for the inconvenience." The next night, I had dinner with 5 Canadian buddies from ISOC. I recounted the story at the airport. One asked me if I got a squiggly line on my declaration. I replied, yes, why? They all laughed and said many times when they return to Toronto, they are met outside of immigration, and get the dreaded "squiggly line" which means that secondary inspection is just around the corner. It looks like Canada is doing its part against the war on terrorism and keeping its big brother to the south happy.

Wonder what made them pick you BlueDevil for this secondary inspection...just the fact that you live in Colombia?? It's always puzzling how they apply rationale to their profiling. They seem to be swinging blindly, and missing. We regular folks are not a mystery to them. They know everything we are doing...or they should. The airlines know, it is no secret!

It may have been a profile flag. When I filled out the declaration card, there was a multiple choice question. Are you coming from 1) The US 2) Directly from Another Country 3) From another country via US? The fact that I am a US citizen, coming from Colombia, and by-passing the US, might have fit their "bad guy" profile criteria. I had nothing to hide. But if I did, it certainly would have been found.

Perhaps I'm paranoid or just extra careful, when I take pics of chicas in CR I upload them to my email b4 I leave then erase them from my phone. I've never been hassled but I know guys who have been and if I am singled out why take a chance?

That is a broad statement saying "Canadians are pricks to non-Canadians trying to legally enter Canada." Can you elaborate with personal experiences?

We (the US) started it after 9/11. We locked down the Canadian border (but not the Mexican border because racism or something) including all those towns where people crossed the border to get gas, etc.

Canada reacted by going tit for our tat.

Now it's beyond stupid and the Mexican border is still an open sieve, drug tunnels, cartel killings, kidnapping, etc.

Many things trigger these 'secondary' searches, at all levels of the travel process. I have a friend that works for Spirit in SJO. Every time she 'upgrades' my seat, it triggered the dreaded patdown search at the gate. When I finally put 2 and 2 together and realized it only happened when she upgraded me, I had her stop. She had no idea it was occurring.

I am sure there are stupid things like that coded into the Immigration process at all countries. It could very well have been a US citizen bypassing the US. Who knows. The main take-away for new guys is: watch what you bring back, including innocent fotos of chicas. Don't empower the authorities to harass you.

Exactly. Entered Canada dozens of times pre-9/11 no problem via Michigan in a car. Since then, denied entry once with no explanation, one time would only allow 2 of our 3 person crew in, and the last straw was , after 10 minutes of questioning, we got in. As we proceeded, we saw a very elderly couple in the secondary screening area standing beside their car as the authorities were taking apart their door panels and going thru their trunk! Haven't visited or spent money in Canada since.

Lived 5 houses down from a guy that worked Customs prior to the 9/11 H.S. takeover (he retired when that happened). He told us about old people driving across borders as a big target for smuggling. No one suspects grandparents on 'vacation', so he said they are always checked.

Prior to the new Canadian Laws passed in recent years, Montreal at least was an awesome monger town similar to Buenas Aires unfortunately in price. Here is one of many PM's of assistance I received from CRT members prior to my first visit several years ago from fellow members familiar with the scene.

Hey Steve,

Well, it really depends on what you're looking for...there's a huge variety of options in Montreal. Montreal is a big agency town, & 2 of the better ones are Eleganza & Nadya's VIP's. Lots of independents too....the girl I was talking about in my post is Eva Charms, search her name, her website I believe is http://www.evacharms.ca. If you like busty girls who give gfe, she's for you, although she's in her 30s & they're enhanced. If you like massage, try Montreal Nuru Massage on Ste. Catherine, also Kama Massage (they have 2 locations). Try sites like annonces123.ca for independents, you might also try backpages. Also check out merb.ca, tons of info there. If you want to give me a better idea of exactly what you're looking for, I could probably be more specific.

Bob

Zunbake3, I am very familiar with the scene in Quebec which is why I don't monger there.
