Hey guys! Newbie here!

After thinking about this for a LONG time, finally planned a trip CR. I am going to be be there from June 9-12.

While this forum has an amazing wealth of information, it also confuses the heck out of me!! LOL ... maybe I am just overthinking. I have not made any room reservations yet, but after reading reviews, posts and all, I am leaning towards Sportman or LAmistad.

Also - what you do guys think of staying at the Marriott in SJO? I understand there won't be any girls in the bar (like HDR, SL etc) and all, but would it be possible for me to bring someone back to the hotel? From a price point of view Marriott stay's are pretty much free for me. So, if I save the $120/day charge for the room, would it make sense to stay at the Marriott (since my primary objective for this visit is to phuck as many chicas as I can! LOL!)

BTW - Anyone stay at Taormina recently? How is the scene out there?

Anyone traveling during these times who is interested in hitting up the golf course on Fri/Sat, I would love to connect.

Thanks guys ... and please excuse if I have asked any obvious/stupid questions due to my ignorance!

CHEERS!!

Marriott is very counter to your primary objective. Maybe the room is free, but you're taking on a lot of additional hassle.

Taromina is very different then what it used to be. I like the location since it is off the main drag. I don't like the $4.00 beers. I like the bar area but not regular chicas asking $100.00. The Italian restaurant ( I never saw an Italian there) is pretty generic. Tastes like Chef Boyardee from the cans. Close to everything and gambling if you like it. I have stayed there before but not again. It is clean and professional and chica friendly. Walking to overpriced Zona II and Sportsman's. Stay here or SL if your primary language is English.

Mariott is a great hotel.....further out..... but if there for the sport there are much better options.

I can't find any current data on whether the Marriott is chica-friendly. At one time it had a chica fee.

However, it is a long way from the Gulch and old threads indicate (1) chicas weren't crazy about going that far unless the got cien and cab fare and (2) they assumed the gringo was rich if he could stay there.

This backs up hotdogg's comment.

I like two hotels - La Amistad for the value (the all inclusive) and Hotel Taormina for the nice 4th floor rooms (the renovated 2nd & 3rd floor rooms are a bargain).

I have not stayed at the Sportsman's (but intend to soon) or Zona II (another to try).

All of the above have no chica fee (Zona II gets you a discount on the on-site chicas).

La Amistad has a congenial atmosphere.

Assuming you mean the Marriott San Jose in Belen - and not the Marriott Courtyard by the airport or Marriott Los Suenos Resort in Jaco - I've stayed there a few times on business, most recently in November 2014. At that time you did have to register guests at the front desk but no chica fee.

Having said that - I wouldn't recommend it as a place for a first-time monger. First of all, it's a long taxi ride from the Gulch. Be prepared to be shafted for extra $$$ by the chica unless she lives in Belen, Cariari or Alajuela. Also be prepared for the "looks" (as in, "Look at that nasty gringo with the nasty whore") from the other guests, most of whom are families or businesspeople.

Don't try to get cute and sneak someone into your room - cameras and security everywhere.

All the advice you have received is right on. Stay at SL or Hotel del Rey (if you want volume and availability), then take a cab to your golf outings...you'll be glad you did!

Thanks guys!!! I really appreciate the advice. So - do the chica's hang out at LA as well? Or is majority of the crowd at HDR and SL?

I know the trip is a month away, but I am just trying to get things lined up ahead of time. I will get there Thursday evening and Leave Sunday early afternoon. Hopefully that will be enough time :D

My next agenda is to figure out the good strip clubs - maybe hit one of those the first night after I get there.

Anyways ... as you can tell i'm like a K*D waiting for x-mas morning to open the gifts! LOL.

CHEERS!!

LA is bring your own chica. A chica from HDR or SL will generally not have a problem going there. If they have a problem with going to LA, then they are a problem for you - take a pass.

Alcazar is the only "strip club" I've been to and I've enjoyed it. A short cab ride from our preferred hotels. Do some searches on what to expect. Round up another guy or two to go. Strength in numbers.

Two more suggestions:

1) Buy a CRT membership. If you stay at SL or HLA, you'll make the fee back in discounts during your first trip.

2) Don't overplan. Everyone does it before their first trip. All those carefully laid out plans you obsessed over get thrown out the window about 2 hours after you land.

Part of the excitement of making this big jump and coming here is to research and plan. It does get confusing and most tend to over plan. Don't try to connect with women before you get here. If after you see what is available you want to connect it will not be a problem. Yesterday while walking around I saw 3 of the most sought after superstars, Estephanie, Jenny and Karen. I also saw two incredibly hot women, equal to Cocal 10s working at mps. One at 360 the other at Relax (Sophia, a tall slender Nica).

1. Decide on a hotel, research the rooms available for your dates and get the one that best suits you. The best I can describe the hotels are as this. L'Amistad offers okay to very good rooms, the all inclusive package is great because the quality of food is outstanding. The atmosphere is friendly in that it is easy to meet other guys to hang with, girls are not allowed to hang out at the bar to work so it is less intense while you are trying to eat or watch a ball game not having them approach you. Drawbacks include the train noise bothers some and some of the rooms have no windows and can be loud from kitchen noise.
The Sportsman's Lodge has good to very good rooms. Not having the all inclusive is in a way a bonus in that you don't feel you are restricted to eating at the hotel. Girls are allowed to hang at the bar and usually on Thurs, Fri., Sat., you will have 30 to 60 different girls pass through. It is a sports bar and just about any game you might want to watch is available. The atmosphere is very friendly and you will have no problem meeting other guys to hang out with.
Zona II is a hotel, sports bar, massage parlor combination. During the day there are 10 to 15 girls working the mp. If you are staying there, the cost per girl should be in the $40 to $50 per hour range. Most of the girls are attractive. It is a small hotel and not many other guests available to run into guys to hang with. The rooms are good. There is a cigar bar. Food is brought in from Bar Poas. There is a small restaurant next door open for breakfast.

You are on a short stay trip if coming in on Thursday and leaving on Sunday. It will not leave a lot of time to experience what is available. During the day the best options available will be the massage parlors. There are more than 50 of them in San Jose but only 8 or 10 worth the effort to check out if you are just here short time. They are spread out over several miles of downtown San Jose. The best options for early evening are the Hotel del Rey and the Sportsman,s. The Del Rey has been hit and miss lately. There are some good nights and others not to get excited about. For someone in for the first time with no point of reference it will look great. At times the Sportsman's has a better group of girls available than the Del Rey. Four years ago this generally didn't happen. The strip clubs are a late night option. Many have exceptionally good looking women. They can be pricey, the areas to take the girls can be very sub par, they either exist for the local crowd or if there for tourists are potentially big rip offs (Tango India and Elite). You have to know which one to go to.

Places to eat include hundreds of restaurants or you can eat at your hotel. Probably the best golf course available would be Valle del Sol in Santa Anna. About 25 minutes from downtown depending on traffic. I would hold off on planning for this until after you arrive. You may find lots of other things to keep you entertained :D .

I stayed at the Marriott on my first trip in Sept. 2001. About $15 taxi ride to Del Rey and 20 minutes. Brought back 2 chicas(at different times) and got a disapproving look from the front desk but no problem. Moved to Del Rey for 1 night and then I finally found the Hotel Presidente(after walking by it several times) and spent the rest of my trip there. And the Presidente would be my hotel for the next 6 years. It WAS chica friendly and about $45 a night.

Hotel Presidente was very chica friendly; it even had a open air cafe restaurant facing Avenida Central. Many gringos would hang off the railing drooling over the seƱoritas walking by to work and shop...it was a popular hangout in the HDR glory years.

And then it all ended around 2009. Not only not chica friendly now, no more open cafe and no chicas allowed at all :D

I guess they changed their business model. Not sure who their target audience is now. In the heart of the gulch??

Some quick advice on golf.... Valle de Sol near Escazu is a very nice course, and you can look online to book it for $40 a person, including cart! We actually preferred it to Los Suenos (Marriott) in Jaco. Los Suenos you can also get cheaper online, but I think the best rate we saw was $80 (regularly $150). Cariari on the way to the airport by the Doubletree is supposed to be decent too but haven't tried it yet.

Whether Jaco or San Jose, the Marriotts are geographically unfriendly. Trust me, even if you don't want to be at the Del Ray, or Sportsman, or the Cocal.... you want to be near enough to make it convenient.

La Amistad is a nice hotel - good people, chica friendly, decent rooms, and they offer rides to/from the airport for a decent price.
