Wow wow Wow, hubris is exactly what I was thinking. Unless it was a red herring to induce CR gov. to let him go and sign a Non-Disclosure......Really just a bad idea, though. He was moved to an improved facility, maybe things are looking better for him, why on God's earth would he put that out there? Of course there is money for him and publicity when he gets out....This saga definitely is a Nat Geo Locked Up Abroad episode, but why go out and say it?

His lawyer should have been present for that interview.

It's still a bogus deal and I hope he gets out quickly.

I wonder if he is so egotistical that "Locked up abroad" is his key to prime time and not just YouTube? It probably would interest those producers being it is a speach issue that involved blogging. Just not sure if the ultimate reason and substance of the blogging would be appealing to them. I am not a fan either way of CD but I do hope that he gets out sooner rather than later.

Although if and when he gets out and he puts this story forward that may bring the rath of the CR government down on our craft because now CR will be even wider known for sexual tourism which may make it harder on the rule followers.

In that thought process, CR may win the battle but lose the war which will ultimately affect our holidays.

Time will tell but with this latest stunt it is more than likely and threatening CR with news stories and a book the maximum punishment is in his future.

Good point, I hope he wises up and keeps a low profile for all our sakes.

Any hope of CD going low profile is loooooong gone.

I don't see him getting out to make bank off of all this. My money says his final days are spent behind bars. Prison/detention does not exactly stretch one's life expectancy.

I'm moderately surprised he is still alive.

Those Sosua Ladies don't look so great either. Maybe that's all that's left after CD ruined the DR for Mongering.

Completely agree. To lie straight out about not knowing about cubadave. com when there are still available videos on YouTube where you announce the website and your wearing a CUBADAVE.COM shirt how much more stupid can you get?

As someone previously said "you can't fix stupid"

Maybe he believes his lies!

It will not end good for him. I just hope it's not ruined for the rest of us.

So I just checked and didn't know Locked Up Abroad was cancelled. Wow, it was a great show too and a reason I never check my bags when flying from South/Central America. CD's story is compelling that some producer could make a great episode about it; exotic locales, US Customs scare, sex, sex with hot young latinas , an internet "legend," a new untested law, inhumane prisons, etc.....

He should have never said that in the interview but he should be fighting his fight in the international media and on the internet now before a trial.

Been away for a few days and just read the interview. I suspect he went from being someone that would have been eventually released in a few more months to someone who just asked to be made an example of. I think he just talked his way into a few more years here in paradise. A plea bargain for time served was just taken off the table. He will get a trial now. The trial will be in front of upper middle class and upper class people here with corresponding values. Picture being tried for your sexual beliefs in front of a jury in rural America with half of the jury female and the other half their obedient husbands. This is not about freedom of speech. It is about how much do you want to rub the noses of the people here into something they tolerate but are not too proud of.

+1 succinctly and correctly put. Not good for the scene, that's the collateral damage here.

Never ceases to amaze me how well Pops knows Costa Rica and his spot on posts...refreshing and very welcomed. Thanks Pops...keep up the great work!

As for CD, no doubt his case is no where near done yet. Once sat and listen to him talk about being imprisoned in Cuba so the 'old folks ward' here shouldn't be too bad for however long he ends up as the guest of the Costa Rican judicial system.

No jury system in Costa Rica. Since CD faces a penalty in excess of 3 years, his guilt or innocence will be determined by a panel of three judges. Plea bargaining is also not normally a part of judicial proceedings here once charges have been filed.

But, in the final analysis, his goose is cooked.
