Do not want to seem ignorant (but I am on this subject)
I have a Verizon phone, is there anyway to call or text the USA from CR that;
Does not show a CR phone #
Shows my USA phone # (without it costing a arm and a leg)
I need to contact the US, but in a way that does not show that I am out of Country
I have read about phone cards on this site, but when you use them what # shows up on the phone in the US

Interesting question.

Not sure you can spoof one phone number to show as another. At least not with ease. My AT&T phone has a setting to change it to "Private Number" but that's it.

My calls to the US from CR (using my US phone) simply show my regular caller ID.

Use a dual sim phone, I have one, love it. Just switch from one number to the other, without moving cards. Just flip a switch.

I think the OP wants to avoid dialing the US (from CR) using his US number because the charges are high.

Tmobile Simple Choice Plan

Disclaimer: I've been using Tmobile Simple Choice plans for years. It's the bomb - I no longer have to worry about outrageous data roaming bills, and if I have to call the US it's 0.20 / minute.

HOWEVER... during my last trip to MDE I called the US on business. My client's first words were, "Are you calling me from Colombia?". On previous occasions my US number would show up on the receiver's caller ID. Not sure what changed. But given the unlimited data, you can always use a VoIP mobile calling app to call the US.

VoIP is great and if you can find a reason or two to get it I highly recommend doing so. I have it set up at home. You can do really cool things with it - particularly manage incoming calls.

Anonymous calls go right to the service's voicemail. I get an email with time & duration and a link to play/download. Certain nuisance numbers I have set to get a number disconnected message. I think you can even set incoming numbers to get a busy tone.

When I travel I can have calls TO the VoIP number forward to just about any number, including internationally, at pennies a minute (7 cents a min to a CR cell). It can even ring multiple forwarded numbers at the same time until I pick up one. You can register your home number so that it feeds 911 services your address.

To Miamiheller's point I have an app by which, while on wifi/data, I can use my cell to call anywhere and the VoIP number shows up as the ID. It's called a "soft phone" because it's software based. And this is the feature to keep your geographic whereabouts en privado.

Callcentric is my provider. It takes a bit of effort to set up (I'm no techie) but it's very useful. I pay less than $6 a month.

For the price go to Verizon and have them add the Global Calling plan. Most likely you will need a SIM card for your phone. I use and IPhone 4s and in the states it does not need the sim card but to use the Global calling I needed them to send a SIM to put in the phone. I think I had to pay $40 one time for the sim card but it might have been for the overnight as the local stores did not have one in stock. It runs about 30.00 for a month and you get 100 texts and 100 minutes of talk time. When you return to the states you cancel the Global Plan and keep the sim card in your phone. Next time you travel call up Verizon and have them turn on the plan again since you already have the SIM.

Next time you upgrade your phone I suggest you look for one with "wifi calling" capabilities. AS long as you are connected to the internet you can both make and receive calls, as if you were in the States.

Search for a spoofing app. You can make it look like you are calling from any number you want. The cost of calling the US using a CR provider is not expensive.

Set up a Skype and when selecting your number, use your cell number. That way anyone you call thinks you are calling from your cell. And with Skype, you can call from your cell, laptop, tablet and rates are super cheap.

Switch to T-Mobile......... it does everything you want (and more).

Wifi calling is standard with no additional cost, no additional charge/cost for international texting and no data roaming charges.

If you do make a non-wifi call, it's 20 cents/min........vs the obscene Verizon charges.

I used to have a Verizon phone until I started traveling internationally.

I have been using an app called Burner which works great on my AT&T phone.

One easy way I found is to use Iphones... I have new 6s and old 4 and I have linked them to same Itunes account. The 4 is unlocked use this in whatever country I am in. In Thailand I got local sim for it... you can then set up the old phone to receive texts from your US number and even send texts using the US number. Also shows you when have message or missed phone calls from the US number.. I have not tried to call anyone though and try to make it show as the US number. But the texting works great. And get to see if anyone is trying to reach while you are out. Then go back to hotel and call back using your US phone use the wifi instead. Get to leave the good phone locked up in the safe. Also set it up so all your monger stuff only goes to the old phone.. i have US sim for it and set up the line and whatsapp using US number it still works when put in local countries sims in. That way you can kept those apps off your regular phone and texts.

Van, I have Verizon with the Global Plan for CR. A little pricey per minute, but to my knowledge no one knows I am in CR, but then again that doesn't specifically concern me so I don't pay the much attention to it. Texting is a little sketchy on their network. You'll get the texts quickly when on WIFI, but they hang-up in "space" on the network, but then push on through once that person calls me, because I didn't respond to their text. I do believe, though that the phone otherwise "behaves" like you were in the US. For example, my neighbor called me when I was in San Jose and I was charged home minutes. I hope this helps.
