Heard from a friend who talked to a San Jose resident today. The guy he was talking to works at the Colonial, and he said the new hotel was planning to open next week.

I love competition.

We need a report as soon as someone can do it. And a CRT/VIP rate.

:)

This will be interesting adding gasoline to the horndog fire that is the Gulch. The restaurant is very good also.
will the hotel rooms connect to the casino?

Does anyone know if the new hotel has rooms with balconies? I've been trying to call the listed number to find out, but nobody answers.

Thanks!

I saw the hotel in January, and the outer structure was nearly finished. I saw no sign of balconies, and it did not appear to be connected to the casino. Its behind the casino. Now... they may have built a walkway since then. They should do it like Caesars used to... a covered electric walkway IN, but not OUT of the casino.

I heard a zoning provision was passed and Colonial Casino wanted to get those new rooms built to beat a deadline.

Something about so many rooms being required in order to own and run a casino.

Anyone know more about this?

There have been questions raised about the legality of the casinos at both the Colonial and the Horseshoe. There is supposedly a law that to have a casino you must have it in a hotel with xx amount of rooms. I do not know if this is fact or rumor so do not know if that is the impetus behind the Colonial building a hotel.

Goal/DD: What you guys said would be logical. I've never seen such a large construction project go up so quickly in San Jose.

Isn't it amazing how hard it is to really get factual information about the casino/sportsbook business in Costa Rica?

There is a huge combined amount of local knowledge on this board, and sometimes its all still a mystery.

I mourn the passing of the walk up sports book. Enjoyed making the impulse bet upstairs at the Colonial, or while walking through the lobby of the Del Rey. Anyone hear if its return is possible?

Heard that the Del Rey has no interest in resurrecting the sports book. After the City closed it they claimed it was a money looser and were not all that upset to shut it down. Think the way they renovated the space gives credence to that.
Never heard anything about the thinking at the Colonial.

ding dong;

maybe if Del Rey had more impressive sportsbook board with odds on it
like in vegas they would of got more bets.
their amatuerish board mainly served as a luggage storage area.
