I guess it will be a great day for Uber and private drivers, thanks to the striking taxis.

Read the comments in the article posted. The first one is spot on, if the taxis provided a good service they wouldn't have to worry about competition. The truth is that the shitty, old, beat up, piece of shit taxis that operate in San Jose, with some drivers with bad attitudes, broken or supped up meters, are a joke. I once got thrown out of a taxi because I asked him not to take the scenic route where he was going to run up the meter. He got me half way there for free, so I just thanked him for the free lift and walked to my destination.

Question: how do you give your destination on Uber app in CR, do you use the CR address "200m west of..."? I will try it out next trip.

Uber uses a Google Maps API. So, Uber will accept any destination recognized in Google Maps. So, if you are going to a business and that business is listed in Google Maps, then you don't have to bother with an address. You can experiment in San Jose by going to maps.google.com and typing destinations in the search box.

Also keep in mind that you can specify destinations in advance of requesting the service by using the Fare Estimate button. Otherwise, if you request the Uber without the destination, then you have to work out destination on the phone while you are waiting for the driver or are in the car. The later could be a problem if you are working off WiFi and don't have a stable 3G connection in Costa Rica.

The solution is to just always specify destination advance with the Fare Estimate. Using it also lets you know how much it will cost in advance.

Personally I am ok with the strike. Jimmy from Zona 2 will be providing transport between Zona 2 and SL on Super Bowl Sunday. What more do I (or anyone else) need?

Uber will love the strike, here come the premium rates just like they do in the states on events like New Year's Eve.

Phuck those damn rip off taxi drivers. Meaning the "official ones." All of them. World ride. If there's a better, cheaper, and more reliable product or service, markets change. And those taxi drivers need to get with the program too. Government regulation is a phucking joke. I'm all about smaller governments. Although governments should regulate things like utilities and some aspects of transportation but a taxi? Phuck that. Let people live their lives.
