Hey guys, how about small ATMs like the ones in HDR or Colonial...I've used them plenty in the past to get up to 250,000 colones at a time! What up with them??

Just returned Sunday and had the same problem at BCR.
Previous trips have been able to withdraw 500.00 at BCR
Colonial was able to withdraw 200,000 colonies but there were
many service charges added

Both ATMs at HDR were kaput yesterday. The colon machine hasnt been working for a while. There are 3 different ATMs at the INS building by Parque España.

Don't know if this is relevant or not, but a friend, resident, was only able to get $50.00 out of a Banco Nacional ATM yesterday. No idea why so little.

That's why I've always said to bring US with you, and don't rely on cards to carry you through your vacation. But ... that's just me.

Agree BD. My last trip at Thanksgiving my card did not work at the usual ATMs. But, because of all the talk on CRT, I brought extra cash. My card did work at the airport.

For what it's worth, I use a CitiGold card at Citi and I can get as much as my limit is at home. No foreign charges. The first day here I took out 200,000 colones 3 times in the same session.

Capital One cards also have no foreign transaction fees.
