I found an insanely cheap flight to SJO from LAX and so I will be there Dec 8.
First time in CR and I don't know where I will go or where I will stay. Perhaps 3 days San Jose and 3 days Jaco? Time to study the forum...
This will be a no drinking trip. I want to find gyms to go to during the days to get a work out in every day.
Solo trip, maybe looking for wingmen.

Welcome Joacuincito,

I am actually there for those same dates out of California. I'm trying to lose weight and a no drinking trip plus gym is appealing to me on some levels.

I am staying Mona Lisa first 2 nights than Jaco with a planned day trip to Manual Antiono & San Isidro.

Can you PM me.

Cheers

There is a fantastic Gold's Gym at the Radisson Hotel. I don't know if they allow non-members in. The Sportsman's Lodge has a small gym which allows visitors at $5 a day.

Correction, I will be there on the 3rd. Leaving the 8th! This will be a short scouting trip and hopefully I can come back for a longer trip next year.
Still have no plans or hotel reservation yet. I'm not carrying luggage, just a small backpack. Would it be unreasonable to catch a bus from the airport to the Gringo Gulch area and just wander around looking for a hotel?

The bus from the airport is a great choice for a backpacker. It costs about 535 colones (about $1). You will need colones for the bus. You can exchange money on the upper level at the airport, at the bank, unless you arrive very late.

Search CRT for TUASA. That's the name of the bus company that has frequent service (usually 15 minute intervals).

I would want a hotel reservation, at least for the first night just to be safe. ........ especially if you arrive late in the day. There are many small, safe, reasonably clean hotels all around the gulch, where you can get a room for $20 - $30 for a night. One is Hotel Paradise, directly across Avenida 1 from HDR, which is "ground zero" for our hobby.

I'll be at Mona Lisa on the 6th for a few days. Got lots of stressful life-shit to clean up there, so I'll be looking forward to meeting some new friends to help me unwind.

So I'm playing poker last night at my local card club and a late 20 something Latino is bragging about him and 10 buddies coming Thursday, tomorrow, for a bachelor party! Staying at Del Rey for 3 nights than rented house in Jaco! I didn't say word -too close to home.

But it is shaping up to be a fun filled party in Costa Rica this week.

I found a gym to go to tomorrow morning , and then I'm taking the bus to Jaco tomorrow afternoon. I might be back here on the 7th. I checked out HDR a couple of times but didn't see anything I was interested in.
