Very few to none. I can't remember one where a non-paying guest was complaining about wifi in a hotel that he was no staying in.

The title of the thread is also a bit much WRT "gripe"... that word should be reserved for paying guests.

He was a PAYING guest of a SPORTSBAR which is known for free wifi. The wifi was down. He wanted to sit, eat and drink, watch some games and monitor his email. He has a valid 'Gripe", even if he comes on too strong about it.

If this guy was a regular on the board, no one would have said shit to him about his post. But because he's a 'nobody', suddenly he's 'non-paying guest'.

Edited to remove a heated POV.

Why is this a thread?

Just me but I prefer to give management the opportunity to respond privately before doing an airing of grievances on a forum. Maybe OP did take it up with management. I see there was convo with staff, who I doubt has the expertise to solve for IT issues. SL does way more right than not.

Or maybe put this sort of thing into an overall review or trip report for some balance. What about those 2 bangs a day? Did you stay under cien? What extras were offered and for how much? How was scene at the DR zoo? Were the spider monkeys mating? TP at sleep inn, scratchy or soft?

Sorry OP but your post comes across as uncouth, which I doubt was your intent.

For future, if you need a wi-fi plan B. Zona II has wi-fi with a clever AP name they will gladly share. They might have a TV to watch games on. I honestly don't recall because I'm watching other things when I'm there.

I ask again... what was the point of the original post?

Here's the right way to voice this sort of complaint against a provider whom most of us know personally and who has a sterling reputation for addressing guest complaints:

"Hey Bill, what's going on with the SL Wifi? I keep getting disconnected every time I try to read my email."

"I'm so sorry about that. We've been having difficulties for a while because of (insert reason here) and I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. Let me buy you a beer in apology."

I ask again... did the OP do that? If not, what is the point of voicing this complaint on a public forum? To "warn" us the SL's wifi is deficient? "Dear me, the sky is falling! I better not go there next time I'm in SJO and need to pretend I'm at work!!!"

Now, if the OP complained about it while onsite and got a "Eff You" response, THEN a post here would have been appropriate. Otherwise you are just being petty at best, and a vindictive asshat at worst.

Save that crap for TripAdvisor.

'Eff you" never happens with the staff at SL.

They don't know how to say that.

Update...to the Wi-Fi issue at SL. last night we did have a meeting including our local IT company, American Data Systems one of our internet providers and an outside contractor who builds Wi-Fi systems in to problem solve. The two hour meeting included putting in monitoring devices to access the bandwidth coming in from the street and the distribution to the access points currently set up. The monitoring devise is still connected this afternoon.

After the meeting I felt confident that we are on the right path. I am to receive a report and a action plan very soon. I hope my next post on this includes a completed successful resolution.

This is not Rocket Science, but because of the many changes to different devices, more accessible IP addresses needed (including drop off abilities when guests leave the Lodge plus our "Dark Spaces") we have suffered the most recent failures. Plus even more items were discussed including routers, configurations and having only one login for the entire Hotel.

+1000

Exactly.

And Bill's most recent update just shows how classy he is, even when confronted with asshattery.

The Sportman's Lodge is so on the money that any posts will only serve them.

On another note:
I have interest in a retail business in the USA. Sometimes a non customer will call and then go online and post a bad review or a real customer will post a non factual review on Yelp, or Google, or Yellow Pages or any other review site. When this happens, we have a law firm that goes after them like nothing you have ever seen. We have been successful 100% in getting these removed.

I hope that is a trend Icanstayway because I rely on Tripadvisor and Yelp for property and restaurant reviews worldwide.

Dear Bill:

Thank you very much for taking my concern heads on. I have supported your business in the past and would like very much to continue to support your business. I like the layout of your sportsbar and would like to spend hours there buying food, drinks, watching the games, and also getting some work done. Reliable internet access is important for me. Thanks for working on getting this problem corrected.

Gentlemen,

Ok I think we have it for now...Please let us know at the Lodge if you are having difficulty connecting or anything related to our Wi-Fi service.

Here is what I was told was done to resolve our issues for now;
1. Two new antennas, one in the mansion wing and one in the bar, for greater coverage of the wireless network were installed.
2. A device for administering the Internet, which provides the option of load balancing, to be running both Internet Cabletica such as America Data while always trying to have an active Internet channel was placed the clients. This device provides access to more than 700 customers at the same time.
3. Antennas club house and the mansion were changed to place two teams of the same characteristics in the mansion and have good coverage.
4. All antennas for improved performance and coverage for both android, Windows or MAC devices are reprogrammed.
5. We have two internet providers in case one of them is down the other one automatically provide the internet access.
6. We are waiting to hear about a possible increase in bandwidth for Costa Rica. at this time the two companies combined will provide 20MG.

if that isn't working amplifiers and new modems are worth a try as well...maybe the antennas are actually amplifiers?
