Since my inaugural trip back in Feb 09, the Key Largo has been pretty much dead ever since. I've traveled back to Cost Rica quite a few times since then, in both low and high season, and still the same. I will be in San Jose for Halloween weekend and was wondering since this is my first trip on Halloween, will the Key Largo be a lot busier with the high number of mongers in town that weekend?

Outside of the Halloween crowd, I don't know how they can pay the light bill at Key Largo.

Yeah Rac that is exactly what I was thinking. I mean it's a ghost town every time I go in there.

Early to mid 2000's was the time to hang out at KL. Had some fantastic times there. The last 5 - 6 years years KL has gone progressively down hill. My guess, and it is purely a guess, is that within a short time that place will close down.

All the gringos and chicas that used to hang out at KL are now at Cocal, by the pool…why? It is anyone's guess

Maybe, just my guess, it is the seediness of the gulch that scared away the business.

Does Key Largo still have all the gorgeous bartenders?

No. I haven't seen anything like the smokin hot ones of around 10 years ago.

YMMV. I have never thought of any of the HDR/KL bartenders as "gorgeous". A few were very hot though. These days, I don't go to HDR often but I don't see the bartenders as being as hot as 5+ years back.

I think they rotate between HDR and KL. KL must be where they send bartenders as punishment. Although with it being so dead, a hot bartender can spend a lot of time with one customer and get him to spend tons of dough on her and get him drunk and pad his bill (which usually happens there anyway, drunk or sober), but she could really cash in on some poor sap. With so many guys who drool over these mediocre bartenders, and get a hard on with any kind of attention, a smart one could really cash in on that.

other than the obvious lack of bodies to keep it going the KL suffers from a lack of identity as well imo
you can't have a live band on one side and a dj on the other going balls to the wall
the cross noise is untenable and there is really no place to just kick back
its really an awesome space and unfortunate no one can figure out how to use it properly and attract bodies

They should call "Bar Rescue". Jon Taffer could do wonders for them.

What a shame...it used to be a lot of fun and a change of pace from the HDR lobby/bar scene. 5 to 7 years ago that is. Had many memorable pulls there back in those days!

Hopefully somebody will figure out how to rescue the scene. But I'm afraid it is lost for good along with the gulch.

Yeah I agree with pretty much everything that has been said. Really a shame because it does have so much potential and it was a good change of pace from the HDR.
