Never been to Brooklyn. My grandfather did grow up there but of course that was a long time ago. He being a huge Dodger rubbed off on me. He moved west before the Dodgers and rooted for them until the day he died. I don't claim to know much about the area. It actually would be cool if baseball returned. It sounds like from what your saying lot's of good things are going on there. I was under the assumption that most the people in Brooklyn still have a rooting interest in the Dodgers.. Is that not correct? I know the giants still have lot's of fans in New York. Also, regardless of what you may read in a book baseball wanted the Dodgers to move it wasn't a decision only the Omalleys made. the Dodgers were chosen.....

Dodgers was a dirty word in Brooklyn. And to be honest yes parts of Brooklyn are enjoying a renaissance. But it's areas filled with yuppies buying up all the brownstones. The only giant fans I know in ny are football giant fans. From I heard from my parents and grandparents was the majority of people despised the dodgers.
I'm not say OmAlley didn't make a good business decision. I said it in my last post. But every story needs a villain and he was it. If that ass mosses wasn't such a power hungry ass Brooklyn might still have a team

Yeah, unfortunately these days yuppies are the main component of Brooklyn's revival!

So actually the league voted on the Dodgers moving and the deal was both the giants and Dodgers had to agree to move and the vote had to be in favor of both moving or both teams would stay. So it wasn't the omalleys just deciding to move to LA. It was in the best interest of baseball. GO DODGERS!!!

But it wasn't in the best interests of Brooklynites who rabidly supported their team that only recently finally beat the HATED Yankees in the WS. The best thing about growing up in BKlyn for my Dad was Dodger baseball and Ebbits Field, I would have loved to have had that experience myself.

Phoenix- I understand that makes perfect sense.. At the end of the day it's a business. We put so much into being fans but they really don't care about us or our feelings. It's similar to companies moving their workforce to areas with cheaper labor.. It's all about the bottom line... Baseball is my passion, I'll bleed Blue till I die and will be a Dodger fan no matter where they play. That might be easier for me since I've never lived in LA or Brooklyn

Not too many people know that when O'Malley's built DS in Chavez ravine that they only put 3 water coolers in the place.
The two dugouts and the press row.
City of LA forced them to put more in for the fans thwarting Walters attempt to make every fan pay for anything they drank once inside the stadium.

How does that compare with other stadiums? What was the norm at that time?
