Up until recently, if you paid for checked or carry-on bags when you bought your ticket or anytime prior to check-in, the price was the same. It is more money to pay at check-in. That has now changed. The price stayed the same if you pay when you make the reservation, but it is $5 more per bag if you pay after making the reservation and before check-in. They got me for $10 this time, but I know their game now - it won't happen again.

Since I've been flying Spirit their site has always said it cost more at the counter. I just never tested it.

That is true, but until recently they didn't charge more if you didn't pay for bags when you made the reservation, as long as you paid before you got to the counter.

I will pay more for a COPA or Avianca ticket and still come out ahead.

Isn't Spirit like the only airline now that doesn't include the departure tax in the ticket price? More BS to keep their prices looking deceptively low. I'd rather pay an extra cien to fly Jetblue.
