after a few conversations about the whole issue of ambiguity regarding the arrest i think i understand it better

from the first day I set foot in CR I knew about two things being illegal
sex w minors and pimping
while he didn't directly take money from their hands he certainly did profit off their images
you could arrest a whole lot of tico chulos that actually take money from the putas and do nothing else
but this was an american who chose to put his stupid smiling face all over the internet w the girls and profit from it
it was taunting the officials and flaunting their laws and I don't think thats an understatement
could it mean that others that PROFIT from the images are also detained? sure who knows?
but i would have to think its pretty doubtful since their are few fools dumb enough to post their images w girls
they really wanted him and if someone gave him up/ratted him out/ whatever you want to call it so be it
it could have been under the threat of something worse who knows?
and while i agree they could have just banned him from the country they wanted their example and he made his bed
I have to believe thats it and life as usual goes on
and those canceling vacations etc are most def over reacting to this jmho

Very well said!! HELL NOOO i'm not canceling my trip. What would life be without risk? Until gringos start getting arrested by the dozens, I'm in. I am still amazed at the length of prison sentence. I mean WOW. What I would be curious is if CD was actually aware of the law and still did this. Common sense would dictate that someone somewhere must have mentioned to him if he hadn't known about it himself. In that case, hard to have sympathy for a guy knowingly taking such a risk and so brazingly flaunting the law. He really has phucked up a lot of shit for girls and hobbyists alike. And how dumb does one have to be to risk YEARS in prison for a shitty YouTube/Facebook page? I guarantee the guy isn't rolling in deniro from his work...so the risk versus reward is just plain stupid. Anyway, this whole incident is just a shit sandwich for everybody to eat.

Somehow I think insulting the entire Costa Rican justice system on his own website is not exactly going to help get him a fair hearing/trial. SHEESH....what is the first thing a defense attorney tells his client? Keep your damn mouth shut. I think ol' Davey boy is going to be rotting with some ladyboys in prison for a long, long time. On the bright side, at least he will get plenty of good action in there. I have a feeling Cuba Dave is finally going to get real celebrity status! Congrats!

Seems way too extreme in my opinion. I understand the guy was a braggart and arrogant and even caused some trouble for some women by posting their pictures...but prison? I mean did you see the pictures of this place? If he spends anymore than a month in there I'd hardly call it justice. Give him enough time to get a dose of reality (Which I'm sure he has already had by now lol) then boot his ass out of the country for good. I feel bad to see someone have to possibly endure a long time in a place like that. I doubt he can even defend himself and he has no money to buy friends (protection). Not a good combo when doing time.

No matter what happens to him I think things will go on as normal for everyone else. Keep quiet stay off social media and keep on banging.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he should spend a day in prison. We all have our flaws and I don't want to cast stones, but wtf is he thinking? His own stupidity looks to be digging a hole deeper and deeper for himself. I mean ripping apart the CR criminal justice system on his own website for which he got in hot water over in the first place doesn't seem like the brightest move. I actually feel sorry for the guy but come on, this is just stupidity imho. I really do hope he gets out of there quickly, fined, banned and we get to hear about it on his YouTube video, but this won't help.

Does the word "SCAM" come to mind. No names, entities or attorney's affiliated with this RFM. Just send money to some nameless person and hope for the best.

I agree completely with TheChamp the punishment is likely to far exceed the crime. I also think a small amount of time in jail and kick him out of the country is about right in this case.

DonJuan, keep in mind the possibility that Cuba Dave may not even know about the RFM that has been possibly posted on his behalf. It does not seem like he has access to a lawyer, a telephone ect.... It is not even clear if he has even seen a judge. Nobody has reported that they had any contact with him since he was arrested.

Damn! He's having an adventure to be sure. Imagine the stories he'll have!

The real question is: does he upcharge for the culo?

I think the real issue here is that this case will establish a precedent for the future . I am not a attorney but I did have a criminal attorney in US I am friends with take a quick look. His opinion is that it leaves an opening to shut down any place with media advertising that ALLOWS girls to work in their establishment. Could have a big impact on some of the more advertised places we all love!

Traveling is a chance to experience some of the things you may not find at home, then CD apparently turns around and complains about the justice system not being like what you find in the US?

And another thing - people need to think about this from the Costa Rican perspective. They're probably proud of their country, just like people elsewhere (patriotism is not unique only to Americans). Being lit up online with the exploits of some (relatively) rich gringo monger isn't going to please a lot of the (poorer) locals .. I'd say quite a few were embarrassed and angered.

The arrest doesn't surprise me now that I think about it. I'm kind of surprised it took this long to tell you the truth ..

That was her third trial. Monday was the second time she has been acquitted (of murder). CR has no law
against 'double jeopardy'. Prosecutors have indicated they will pursue another trial (the fourth) The court still holds her passport, and they also have possession of 7 million dollars in precious stones that they claim were not taxed properly.

Wow! Pretty sobering...

However much of a jerk this guy has been and is, he doesn't derserve this unfair treatment for what he has allegedly done. If he did, everyone reading this post knows that it could be them in that same situation
