I contacted one of the advertisers here on CRT about a ride from SJO to Gringo Gulch. My plane arrives right at midnight and I was told the fare would be $50. Is this the norm? I have never arrived quite this late but I did arrive at about 11pm on one occasion and I was just charged the meter rate. I have never paid more than $30 and usually that includes a generous tip. A couple of times when traffic was horrible the meter rate was close to the $30 mark. If the rates normally increase at 12 midnight I have no problem paying. I just don't want to pay $20 more than a cab that is waiting in front.

To be clear, he isn't referring to me. I prefer to drive at night myself and LOVE the late night/early morning stuff.

At midnight just go out to the main road curb in front of the airport and flag a red cab tell them you have $ 20 to get to town . Why go upstairs at midnight because no one is being dropped off at that hour. If someone is being dropped off at the airport at midnight that would mean they had a 2 am departure and I don't recall any of those. So why tell someone to go upstairs after midnight ?

Spirit airline does have an after midnight flight. The airport taxis run the meter and it is between $30 and $35.

My next return flight from sjo to the usa, via Houston, leaves @ 1:52am from sjo so yes I & the rest of the passengers on that flight will be arriving @ the airport after midnight.
