And yet your informational sources are lacking and merely anecdotal....from a person who lists UNIX clones as "unique" OS. (All the systems you "prefer" over UNIX contain UNIX as their spine.

). Too, they're all proprietary and were designed for their individual companies such as IBM, Bell Labs, IBM again. These OS were NOT robust; very easy to crack open given they were all filled with holes and easy exploits, blah, blah, blah. I expect that's why they're all pretty much dead? They're essentially toys.
"However, Plan 9 has never approached Unix in popularity, and has been primarily a research tool:
[I]t looks like Plan 9 failed simply because it fell short of being a compelling enough improvement on Unix to displace its ancestor. Compared to Plan 9, Unix creaks and clanks and has obvious rust spots, but it gets the job done well enough to hold its position. There is a lesson here for ambitious system architects: the most dangerous enemy of a better solution is an existing codebase that is just good enough." (And that's just for Plan9; want more for the others?)
Oh, a guy can obtain stuff like speakfreely (
http://www.speakfreely.org ) which started VoIP but to what end does one want it? Yeah...I'm shooting myself in the foot: I still rely very heavily on speakfreely for VoIP given its encryption add ons. Something for a certain few to take under advisement?
