Hey MB…just for your reference HDR and Sleep Inn and Morazan, next door, have card key entry in their rooms….

Thanks. It bothers me as a customer of any hotel or guest house in the world to have to lug around a 1.5" x 6" slab showing my room name / number. Unless soldered on, I remove the keyring and loop it over a belt loop on my shorts/pants.

For me, the only hotel I've stayed at in CR that offered keycards was Mona Lisa

Off the top of my head, I've stayed in approximately 8 different hotels in Costa Rica, many outside San Jose. I just hope the guest before me didn't go to the CR equivalent of Home Depot and make a copy of the key. How easy would it be for that guest to rip the safe out of the wall and make off with $2,000 cash?

Amistad also uses Keycards... if you misplaced your card, Rudy and Carlos also will completely disable the old card for your peace of mind.

Nobody has mentioned the quality of the chicas in CR vs. other venues…with the exception of Cocal today, I think the level of the chicas in the gulch has gone down significantly on average. This is clearly affecting the competitiveness of CR in the monger market
.

Id say numbers are down and migration patterns are different. it seems alot of chicas realize gringo #s are down and depend on repeat appts these days. this leaves the rey looking less dense with talent.

In general, the caliber of chicas @ HDR, for example, is way below where it was a few years ago…not only in looks, but in education and class too! Finding quality GFE with part-timers at HDR who are also college students was not uncommon in 2006…nowadays its winning the lottery hard!

Numbers are down this past week for green season, less overall gringos coming to SJO, also the college students are out of school now i think.. I was there around midterms and a few girls had their books with them studying at the slot machine!!!

also think the crackdown on foreigners, especially colombianas, has decreased the level of lookers quite a bit.

i think its a combo of the word spreading amongst the foreign chicas, low gringo #s, the rise of colombia and Jaco.... it seems after the raid in Jan the numbers are drastically down and a mongerer must change things up a bit... i know for myself the I've depended on a couple of really good sessions at places liek Zona and Monicas for daytime, a pretty good repeat regular and her network of chicas, also in the rey ive gotten more picky and it seems to be working in my favor, not so much pricewise (cien) but for what i get for the money (no rush clock, semi GFE etc) ....

In terms of numbers of chicas go, yes the number and quality in the Gulch is not what it was even a few years ago, however no one has spoken about the effects of instant messaging (primarily whatsapp) and social media. The chicas can stay home and be in contact with repeat customers in advance of us showing up.

The girl may sit in the DR or SL with no guarantee of business or she can work her social network from home without having any expense, especially transportation and not paying a sitter fee.

She may also set up a schedule in advance by communicating with us even before we hit the ground and have no reason to work the DR or SL.

I am in complete agreement with visiting all of lodging options available. You can draw your own conclusions based upon what is important to you.

One note about changing rooms, most of the places we visit are not 100 plus rooms locales, also if that is a problem than decide if that is a deal breaker, if so find another place. Personally I will only move once during my stay.

Anyone know whats up with the ML? Been trying to call in a reservation the last couple of days. The toll free number doesn't work, tried to call Guy with no success, and the hotel number shoots you straight through to a recording in espanol. Are they still open?

Still open. Cash only. You can walk in without a reservation, very few customers. Rooms are hit or miss but nice for the most part.

Stay at the Dunn Inn, 57$ a night. You can walk 200 feet to Mona Lisa to use their amenities

Mona's is ok. Talk to Guy or Helmuth and try to get a deal with that many rooms. Tell them you can pay cash. They love that and you can save some cash.

Question about ml room rate. CRT says 10% discount for members but internet rate for standard room in Oct is 49.99 plus tax and includes free breakfast. Asked for my 10% discount as CRT member and was told no discount. I guess same price member or not?

According to the Mona Lisa the CRT Discount only applies to normal room rates and not to the $39 or $49 sale rates. I also understand that the sale $39 and $49 rates also require cash payment and may with withdrawn at any time.

As of October 2nd, the standard room is $79.99 and the deluxe room is $89.99. Room rates on the remodeled 4th floor, are between $109.99 and $199.99.
