I think if it's your first or second time at HDR, you can have a great time, and at least a few of the women will be 8 s or 9s, but seriously, there are an almost unbelievable number of 2's and 3's. Sure it's packed, but with guys and twos and threes. I'd rather it be less packed and have some nice looking, unspoiled women.

65 year olds will probably see it like paradise. I also thought it was pretty damn good my first 4 or 5 visits.

To repeat, my point is, that if you live in CR, the HDR gets old fast.

So no worries to anyone coming for a short trip a few times a year, although when my buddies come down, we'll be going to Jaco, without a doubt.

I don't think anyone goes to jaco for the beach, just like they don't go to SJ for the food, culture or architecture.

well I didn't do a count, but I'd stand by my estimate of 2 to 1 guys Friday night. 100 to 1 is an exaggeration of course, but I think most people get my point.

Yup, my experience in SJ is very limited, too limited, to the HDR, that was really my point.

I'm sure some guys find the women at HDR amazing. I was looking around in dismay one night when a guy near me said, 'have you ever seen so many beautiful women in one place?' I could barely come up with a reply. I'm not judging, just saying my standards seem to be a lot different than the average HDR weekend guest. I suppose if you are on a short visit it can be fun. But living here it gets old very quickly.

Guess I am spoiled after having lived a few years in Colombia (before it was famous), Peru and Argentina. I live here now so I'm not bashing the place, but there's simply no comparison between CR and other places in LA. Or it could be that I just haven't discovered the right places for me yet. I did think Jaco was great, as good as anywhere I've been, maybe even including Brazil, but I haven't been able to get there enough due to work.

BTW, you and I met (if you're Mike) at La Amistad last year, when I first arrived. I'd meet you for a drink for sure, but will be out of the country in May and most of June. Next time though.

You live there ? What about all the MP's around Paseo Colon and the various ones BB57 talks about all over town ? I'm back in the states now so when I visit I stay at the Rey and usually find something to my liking at night and I'm out and about during the day looking for action at an MP. I lived there for 2 years (2007-2009) and rarely went to the Rey at night, I made a fun expedition touring various little known MP's and often found amazing newbie unjaded jems at bargain basement prices to boot ! I don't know your age or ability to walk about, but if you are in reasonable good shape, go on a treasure hunt and have fun !!! 8) 8) 8)

Spent the better part of two years in CR 2006-2008. Now, get down several times per year for a few weeks each trip. Whenever I am near HDR, I always walk through and check the talent, morning, afternoon, late night, whatever. But, I almost never pull from there. Some of my wingmen do, but I am just too cheap.

I LOVE the massage houses in CR. There are many, many, and so much talent, and so much cheaper than HDR. My two current favorites are Relax and Monica's. Have never been ripped of at either of those. Relax is on 11th street, an easy walk from SL or HDR, and within the block it sits on, there are two other houses, Eros and Idem, in case nobody at Relax appeals.

Tikalika, you gotta check the massage parlor threads on this website, download the map, and get out more. Next time, I am in town, I will volunteer to show you some new places. Beers are on you.

Besides the HDR, SL, ML, there is really no pro hangouts, other than the MP's and strip clubs.

If you have checked them all out and are still disappointed, time to pack and move somewhere else. Or lower your standards.

Tikalika, Keep in mind, while in San Jose, there are plenty of places to venture. Sportsmen, Zona II, New fantasy, Monica's and 100's of M.P.s. Tango India is not one of them. U.S. style strip club. $20 for a fruit drink for the chica (yes, she get's a commission) and that card you got from the Taxista, with his name on it, yup commission as well. A large number of people coming to C.R. now a days will stay in Jaco on Thursday - Saturday night. The Cocal by far has the hottest lineup in Costa Rica. Nothing can compare. And if you think the girls are more expensive there, well yes they are. By about $20. I know most guys coming here can afford $20 more as opposed to spending $300 a pop for that grain fed heifer from Nebraska that they got off the backpage. Give Costa Rica another try and broaden your horizons. You will be glad you did.

Jaco Beach. It's about a 90 minute drive from San Jose.

I think it's gone downhill in the past 5 years FWIW. Less cute women and more guys.

That was one of the best things about it was the selection and volume.

I can only speak of the past 2 years, but I wouldn't say 'more guys' ... less guys actually, but the ratio makes it look as if there's more guys (ie, less chicas).

The place is usually empty most times I'm there. On my first couple of trips you had to brush past people to walk through.

I agree with your assessment as to the talent level. I went in November and it was ok but I still found nice company everyday. I went the weekend of May 1, and it was the CR equivalent of Labor day. The talent level was as weak as I ever seen it in the 10 years I have been going. With airfares being sky high from South Fla it makes the CR a less attractive option.

Not sure why its such a great mystery to people
If the girls were making money they would be there
I would guess the numbers of men traveling to CR for fun is probably less then 40% of what it was in 06 when i first went there
That is because some guys got tired of CR but without a doubt its because the economy is still in the tank no matter who says its doing great. People aren't spending money like they used to.
That and the airfares have been absurd
All you guys who think these girls are getting rich might want to consider what standing around for 8 hours looking for a trick that might happen feels like
Im sure a lot go home without any money and are paying for taxis, bus or driver
Yes the DR was slow in May and until things improve economically in the US it will stay that way
The better/smarter girls have built up client lists and don't waste their time

I have to say that in the last 2-1/2 years since I started going to CR it seems like there are fewer guys in the gulch, therefore slimmer pickin's for the chicas. I was at the LA same time as Loco Mike & there was one day when I think there were only 2 or 3 of us there. Jaco seems to be the place that is busy, but even there it wasn't as busy as the previous fall.

Theory: with the US dollar stronger and the airfares (as far as I can tell) dropping in the last year, more mongers with the ability to travel are going farther afield, like Columbia, Brazil, Thailand and the Phillipines. Add to that the aging of the Boomer generation, the guys who were mongering 10 or 15 years ago are more likely being doctored than playing doctor.

... Or I'm as full of shit as a Christmas cake

Remember to factor in the effect the Cocal has on the HDR nowadays. If you add in the volume of guys at the Cocal to the volume at the HDR (and likewise chicas) then you have a better measure of the scene.
