I don't know why the Freebird doesn't get more mentions here, as it is only two blocks north of Relax/Idem and 3 blocks south of HDR. I have stayed at Hotel Freebird and I really like the Deluxe/Luxury Suite, (there are two of them). The outside of the building has a black iron gate and I found it to be very secure and private. Each of the two suites have a nice bathroom/shower and there is a fan over the bed. The bed was comfortable and there is a safe in the closet. The room is fully equipped with a tv/couch/bar/microwave/fridge.
Dennis has an ongoing special for $169 for 3 nights:

I suggest when making a reservation, fill out the form on the website and write Dennis via the email on the site or call him.

I recommend only the Suites, as others have posted here that the Queen rooms' bathrooms are shared/down the hall.

I think it might be a decent place, but I'm not sharing a bathroom with anyone...

The special he is writing about are the suites , they both have a full bathroom , the other rooms are the ones with shared bathroom ( which you might see one other person using it the entire stay...all rooms are spotless

The internet was fine. I was on Facetime audio for over an hour and a half with no disconnect. I didn't use the video feature, so I didn't test that level of bandwidth. It was fine for checking email etc. I want to clarify again that there are 2 Deluxe Suites, with private bathrooms & hot showers, (big enough for 2 people). They are really nice. They are not to be confused with and completely separate from the Queen rooms with the shared bathrooms. I was there in November last year and found the fan above the bed in Suite 1 was plenty for cooling the room. I actually got cold and had to turn it off. Check in time is at 2 pm and Dennis meets you at the entrance gate.
