Yes they are definitely open, not sure why you can not get through as I have talked to the a couple of times this week.

I went there this afternoon about 3 o'clock. The hotel and half the front bar is open. There is an open area back to the sports bar. I didn't walk back there, but I doubt it is open because their was only one customer at the front bar. There were two bartenders and two working ladies at the front bar. One of the bartenders was cute. The reception desk and a few areas past it are open, but everything else on the first floor appears to be closed off with temporary walls. There must have been a meeting with the new owners because there was a group of about 10 guys gathered behind the reception desk. Guy Grand was in that group.

Thanks for the ground report GDJ...are you staying there? I'm planning to possibly stay there a few days late next week, but doesn't sound very inviting.

Might as well stay across the street at Dunn Inn.

No, I am not staying at the Mona Lisa. I stayed at the Dunn Inn 4+ years ago. Some of the rooms were small, but everything was comfortable. I think the cheapest rooms now are in the $80 range. That seems a little high for the location and what you get.

I'd pass until the renovations are finished. It will probably be a good option then.

For $39 CRT rate it's still a good option unless you really spend alot of time in your hotel room. The bar should be open at night, which is all I really care about other than a decent bed and some quiet.

I have 3 friends staying there right now. The rooms are clean BUT the electronic keys are not working so they need a maid or security to let them into their rooms.

The restaurant is closed.

One of the guys had the hot water knob fall off onto his foot in the shower. He had a heckuva time getting it back on.

One of the other guys said when he turned on the A/C it lifted the ceiling tiles up and brought dust down.

I don't know what the rooms had before but at this time they definitely don't have refrigerators.

Yes, the price is a bargain but beware.

Update: Two of the 3 found the refrigerators. They are part of the nightstands. The 3rd definitely doesn't have one. Also the wifi only works in the lobby. One room is missing the remote for the TV. They said the word they got was the new owner (Mr. Big) will be in country in 2 weeks to oversee the renovations from the top down.

Talked with Helmut the other day. He said all is to be complete by the end of the month. He did say they are going to raise the prices. Right now, good to stop in for a beer. There are chicas there.

Yes, but did they solve the inquisitive cat problem in the ceiling?

Guess I'm not in your list of friends? LOL

I try to keep in mind that there is a major renovation so I'll be a bit more forgiving on the conditions.

I have a room with an actual key so no issues there. WiFi works in the lobby and half the third floor and should be back up today. Hot water and ceiling cats have always been a guessing game but you can ask to switch rooms.

My issue was that they issued me a dirty room - like the bed was slept in and the towels were used. When I asked the front desk at 8pm to clean before I returned for the night I was assured it would be addressed. It wasn't.

I understand they are all swamped with the key issues and such but there's a limit. Might want to avoid until they get it all straightened out.

But the bar was busy and there were 6-8 chicas of the 6s and 7s variety.
