Castillo was always a fun time. Sure, the shower doors were phucked up. And there could be a broken window pane or two. And the internet connectivity left a lot to be desired. But the place had amazing character: gardens, sitting rooms, chill out spots, and several bars. And some of the rooms have amazing views. There was always a cool group of guests too. And how great was it it to stroll out the door and stumble downhill to New Fantasy? Or take a quick stroll around the corner to SL?

I probably have spent at least 50 nights there over the years, so I have fond memories. Darren, Danny, Marie and the rest of the crew always went out their way to make my visits enjoyable.

Honestly, all the place seems like it needed was some minor refurbishing: bathrooms, furniture + bedding, and some reliable internet. Maybe I'm oversimplifying things. Maybe there were a lot of structural, plumbing, and electrical issues that needed to be taken care of.

The one time I stayed at La Amistad wasn't by choice. Castillo was sold out and they recommended LA. I went by and looked a room LA said was available. It had a great, huge bathroom and shower. I reserved THAT room. But when I checked in, they put me in a much smaller room for the same price. Bait and switch. The room was hot and car alarms went off 24/7. More noise than you can imagine. The staff was efficient but not friendly. So, overall, not a good experience. Oh, and twice the price of Castillo.

So, I guess I share SpeakNo's concerns.

So the front bar will be gone and turned into a guest room? Does this mean that there will be no on site restaurant at the Castillo. I know it hasn't been open for years, but I was hoping that you guys would turn the Castillo bar/restaurant into something similar to what you have at La Amistad.

I have been staying at the Castillo exclusively (except for a long trip when I rented an apartment) since 2006. I loved it there. I will say that the best times for the Hotel seemed to be when the front bar/restaurant was under good management and filled with guys (and even a few girls). I always wondered why someone couldn't make that bar/restaurant work for an extended amount of time.

The last few years that I have gone the place has been pretty empty. I am just glad some new capital is being put in to the hotel to make it great again.
