Toured CROCS on Tuesday (3/10) and have to say that property is beautiful and upscale in all aspects. Most importantly to our forum, the "GUEST POLICY" brought me back to the later days of the grand ole lady, "HOTEL PRESIDENTE". Policy changed nightly and soon thereafter became NO GUESTS at all. Very similar policy here. Dressed nicely (no skin, jeans, tank tops, etc). Of course, policy can also be interpreted differently by whomever checks you in. Safest manner is to have your guest registered with you. For the COCAL players, a wasted cab ride if your guest is coming from there or other venues. Hotel is gearing toward same clientele that would be considering LOS SUENOS MARRIOTT and would like more action in the evening with the nightclub (not viewed) and casino. Conference and banquet facilities can accommodate small to large with no problems. Pool area is big with pool bar (separate area has resident live croc) and direct access to beach.

Casino is nice, airy and richly appointed. One crap table, roulette and blackjack. Did not see a poker area. Pay tables for Video Poker are set so high, all you could do is play for fun and pass the time.

Toured hotel room on the 5th floor and found room and view beautiful. Rates start at $214 and go to$324 depending on floor and balcony. Winter rates drop to $179 to $289 per night.

Condos start on floor 7 to floor 17. 44 condos in all with 18 sold (41%). Not bad considering there are no models and only floor plans. Three penthouses (3 bedrooms) going for $1,060,000 are all sold. Most prices start at $325,000 moving upward depending on floor and # of bedrooms. I would assume the guest policy is same in Condos as all amenities and common areas are shared. Would appear that the condo aspect is being well received.

All in all, a very nice property and cannot see the guest policy altered in the foreseeable future. Too much $$ spent here and management not trying to get OUR business. Hope this helps

Ron, thanks for the excellent review

I stayed at Croc’s last weekend. I had no trouble bringing in a Cocal girl although we devised a procedure to avoid going by the front desk. We went in separately. She went to the casino to play a machine. I went to the bar for a drink. After about 20 minutes I located her in the casino where we acted like old friends when we met. Played about 30 minutes. Back to the bar for more drinks and a snack. Then off the room without incident. Trek from the bar to the elevators does not go by the front desk. No problema.

Frankly, I interviewed many chicas at the Cocal nearly all of which said they had been to the rooms at Croc’s.

The property and the rooms are very nice. Service was very good. We were given free drinks when playing the machines, with usual Las Vegas style tip being given. Lady came by every 20 minutes or so. Rooms were finished well. Bed was comfortable. No noise when my chica cowgirl got going. Well maybe some from her at 2am. I hope it woke up the neighbors who played rap music for an hour earlier in that afternoon when I was in siesta mode. LOL!

Only minor issue for me was that the safe was not secured to the min-fridge on which it sat although the hardware was left inside waiting to be installed. View from balcony overlooking the pool and beach from the 6th floor was muy bueno.

I only ever saw two chicas that looked like they may have been working but it was not obvious so I did not attempt to pick them up.

I will return.

Sounds like something out of a James Bonds movie there...quite a bit of dancing, acting and pretending to get the Cocal Chica to your room buddy. Lucky you didn't t lose her to another wondering gent in the process.

Wouldn't want to go through all of that every time I pulled a Chica though, especially horny and ready for action  but it sounds like you both had fun doing it!

Not to put a damper on things, but sneaking a girl in can bring more problems than it is worth. First, the law in Costa Rica says hotels must register all guests so by doing this, you are putting them into a position where they have broken the law. Second, registering a girl at the hotel is a security measure for MONGERS as well. When the girl knows the hotel has her cedula and a record of her entrance, she is much less likely to steal from someone. Third, having someone familiar with CR cedulas (IDs) could save you from criminal (and possibly civil) charges if the girl is too young and using a fake cedula or one from a friend/family.

My best advice is always check the girl in with the hotel front desk no matter what unless they do the registering at the door like SL does.

Good points PVT.

I read my post again. I should have mentioned that I have known this Cocal chica from visits past so I was not endangering myself and I was absolutely positive she is of age, in fact in her late twenties.

Query: Where are the girls checked it at Cocal? I have never taken one by the front desk.

They are checked (ID inspected) at the driveway entrance (security guard).

The slots at the Casino seems to be pretty loose. Had a couple of my guys win over the weekend. I think they want to attract players who normally play the the Cocal. According to Rory, the G.M., they have no desire to add a poker room. No money in it for the Casino as he puts it. So, Texas holdem is still at the Cocal. BTW, Croc's has the very best hamburger in town at $8 compared to $15 at Los Amigos. Go to the poolside bar and order you one. It's a spectacular place to visit and hangout. Good change of pace.

A friend just returned from a trip to Jaco and stayed at Crocs. He said he paid for 2 nights and got the 3rd night free. I believe he told me $109 or $189 I'm not sure. He also said that there were working girls there and he had no trouble going to his room.

More than likely it was $189 per night. Look for a special to come out for the month of June that might be worth your while. I have never seen any girls there working, soliciting for sex. Now I have seen some with the guys in the casino and restaurant but they were always with someone.

I'll be staying at Crocs Sunday 7/11 - Tuesday 7/14. Hopefully I can mange to work the chica angle - I'll report back.

I have business in San Jose Tuesday-Thursday 7/16. I have a car rented and I will be headed to Jaco from San Jose on 7/11 around noon and will return to San Jose fairly early on 7/14, 8:00. I've driven in China, Mexico, and East Africa - I imagine Costa Rica to be similar driving as Mexico or perhaps Kenya. I'd be willing to share the trip either direction for some local wisdom and perhaps a drink - a recommendation for a chica is always appreciated.

Unfortunately, while working in San Jose, I'll be at the Intercontinental in Ecazu and my 'hobbying" may be limited - therefore, I scheduled some personal time for the weekend prior to work - Jaco seemed a good choice. I may do a day trip to Manuel Antonio on that Monday. The accommodations are through my employer (state-government affiliated) - accommodations even remotely "hobby-affiliated" were not possible; the busy-bodies at my employer that control and track expenses know how to use the Internet better than the IRS or the Secret Service apparently are capable;)

Other than brushing up on some high-school Spanish and taking time to survey the Cocal, any other pointers are appreciated. I've taken some time to read much on the board and I've obtained my CRT card. I'm an early forties engineer, divorced, unattached, and I am grudgingly about thirty-pounds overweight (though, if providers are to be trusted, I'm told I carry the pounds well :p). I've discretely used providers in the US and Europe. My opinion about Europe - the Netherlands is overrated; Budapest can be spectacular. The US gets a bad reputation. With a little work and research, there are some real diamonds-in-the-rough that can be found for regular providers. This will be my first attempt in Latin America. If all goes right, I may be in CR several times over the next couple of years.

Thanks much for all the information already posted and thanks in advance for any pointers.

BTW - the prices at Crocs are currenlty quite reasonable. My "allowance" is $220 per night. That was enough to obtain a junior suite with ocean-view balcony and breakfast. A Marriott in the United States in a "nothing-special" location with a "nothing-special" room can cost that much - and will still charge $27 for breakfast. The Intercontinental in Ecazu is no bargain, $200+ for a "nothing-special" room. Most likely I'd be hassled bringing in a chica. I won't try.

You would think with the money they spent building the place that they would have parking for more than 15 cars and they would invest a couple hundred dollars into filling the pot holes in the bombed out road leading to the place. The casino has 15 or so tables with 4 or 5 in operation. Doesn't seem like the concept is going over real well. The night I stopped by their were 20 to 25 people gambling. This was on a Thursday night.

this shouldn't stop you from exploring the "cultural scenery" in the Barrio Amon area... there are should be plenty of vacancies at the Gulch hotels at decent rates during the weeknights like mona lisa for 39.99 or even the sportsman rooms in the bar area could be vacant... there are also a number of short time love motels... you could use cash to avoid any detection and you dont need to sleep there...
