Also, as for as facts, when I had been guaranteed a room at Hotel Castillo for Halloween in 2014, three days prior to my stay I was informed that I had been rebooked at Hemingway. Anyone knows this place sucks and is a last resort, I was very offended. stayed one night and was able to get into HDR, which was great.. Matt can suck my dick. I know all you asshats that like to buddy up may be offended, but suck me.

I stayed at amistad for 10 days in February. I found it very enjoyable stay and staff was amazing as was the food. My only gripe on that trip was when I inquired about the Jaco shuttle. I was told it doesn't go unless there is two or more people. I was not all inclusive but don't think that should have mattered.

If your gonna advertise a shuttle. Then somewhere you should write must have 2 or more people to go

most of this stuff its just none of my business
however anyone who thinks the business owners are getting rich by "ripping off" customers is off base
first off the pricing on rooms is about half of the room rates i pay when traveling then again I'm not staying in motel 6 most nights
LA, CHI, SF, NY etc. theres nothing under $150 a room that I've ever wanted to stay at
sure they make money off the bar, food and rooms but how about the down times when theres 2 or 3 guests for a month?
staff and bills still need to get paid
good on them if they make a profit because they also take all the risk and its their money on the line
i have affection and admiration for some of these guys but lets stop short of calling it dick sucking
i sort of think of it as watching some pretty good card players at the table
in a moment their stash can disappear and the reasons aren't always apparent
takes a smart man w a good handle on all the intangibles or at least a good lawyer on speed dial
if it were that easy there wouldn't be five failures for every success since I've come to SJ
i just appreciate these guys giving us options teho

You managed to suck the cocks of the the hotel owners where you like to stay I guess. And your final paragraph in which you admonish everyone, as if you are some authority, in how we all as adults should address businesses, really irked me.....Frankly asshat......F*ck off.

Gentlemen, I like to remind you to please refrain form making personal attacks. It's perfectly fine to offer criticism of a business, but it is not acceptable insult or to call people names.

I will let Matt respond to questions about the construction. However, I will ask that we keep a civil tone and respect other members.

It is actually refreshing to have personal contact and a relationship with the actual hotel owners and management, try finding that at a Hilton, Marriot or Holiday Inn. When you visit the hotels in the Gulch, it is very likely that you will be able to see the actual owner and engage with him and they read this board and many times will address your issues on the forum or in person.

I have had the opportunity to stay at most of the main Gulch properties, each has advantages and disadvantages. My suggestion is to take a tour of the property, stay a few nights then make up your own mind.

Not sure where the smoke and mirrors is coming from? It will open but the scope of the project changed drastically since the purchase. If you are going to do a project in Costa Rica, do it right (permits, drawings....) just like the Unites States. Most of the business failures we have seen in the past few years are due to people cutting corners. We completely updated the electric, plumbing, added a third floor with roof top decks, went from 21 rooms to 30 rooms, balcony on the end units ect. Completely new Bar and Restaurant (the old owner let the permits lapse and needed to be re permitted). Not sure where you are getting your gossip but best to confirm prior to posting.

Jaco bus exists but there was never enough demand to implement. It still sits on the lot of tica bus. We do run shuttles daily from the hotel. We do make mistakes, but until May 1st it was included in the all inclusive regardless of nights stayed. After the first of May a four night stay is required (regardless of whether or not you are all inclusive), again the demand is not there. Business models change over time due to changing in business climates.

Sorry we did not meet everyone's expectations, but after 10 years of business in Costa Rica we think the benefit of doubt should be applied prior to unwarranted accusations written.

Matt

You requested a room in August 2014 through the old ownership, The Hotel was sold October 1st 2014 and the decision to close was made due to the poor conditions of the Hotel. We notified you on October 25th that the reservation could not be honored and made arrangements for you at the Hemingway. You reluctantly agreed but accepted. We would have looked for alternative Hotels, but was impossible due to your price point with the Castillo. We apologized for the inconvenience, but was unavoidable. As for the rest of your post, I think it speaks for itself.

Sorry we could not meet your expectations. Next time you are in town and would like to talk my door is open and Drinks/Dinner are on me.
Matt

Chili--maybe you could blame this on your "Ghostwriter" (AKA Jacoret)..

Matt

I got no complaints, and I got bumped from Castillo once, after I was luxuriously upgraded to La Amistad the previous trip.

Can I get a free drinks and dinner too?
