I am going to Hotel Royal Corin, near La Fortuna and Arenal from the 20th of April, returning on the 23rd. I don't want to rent a car, so I was wondering about buses or hired transportation, and the costs. I am not sure how long of a trip it is, time or distance, any suggestions??

By car, the trip from San Jose to La Fortuna is about 3 hours one way. By bus, it is at least 4 hours one way. As for options, there is the local bus, shared services like Interbus and private transport like I provide. Cost can be anywhere from ~$8 for the local bus up to ~$200 for private transport. On the local bus, you'll need to add about $15-$30 for a taxi from La Fortuna to your hotel. I do that trip for $180 for CRT members after the 10% discount.

Great excursion, just got back from there and will start making a point to stay there more. I usually like Quepos and MA. You could fly Nature Air or Sansa Air, rates vary and about a 30 minute trip. The drive is very nice and scenic and cool towns on the way(San Ramon) to stop and grab some cervezas and check out the locals.

When you are there, eat in the local restaurants, way way cheaper than the hotels. Adventures galore, the most I've seen in one place in a CR pueblo. Check out Magic Mountain at night. Thats where the locals go to party. No P4P but I was getting the vibe from a few, one in particular I knew I could pull but I was with the novia.

Disfrute!
