So Here I am at 8:16 with My Novia with a few stolis under my belt getting ready to go out to dinner with Tman & His novia and I'm in the Presidente and the mirrors are shaking and I think I'm either drunk already, having a heart attack and about to throw a 7 or I'm having a hallucination that the room is moving....

NOPE THINK AGAIN!!!!!!! It was pretty wild.. Car alarms going off everywhere etc. No damage or anything, but unexpected and afterwards biz as usual. I guess it happens so much down here nobody gives it a second thought. My First Quake in CR though... we don't get to many quakes in Miami!

PURA VIDA ALL IS WELL IN THE GULCH!

Earthquake Rattles Costa Rica and Nicaragua
A strong earthquake shook Nicaragua and Costa Rica on Friday but there were no reports of damage or injuries.

The quake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.7 struck at 8.16pm local time , Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (OVSICORI-UNA), whose epicentre was near the southern Pacific coast of Nicaragua, 70 kilómetros al Sur-Este de Rivas, Nicaragua.

The quake shook buildings and lasted up to 30 seconds, witnesses in the Nicaraguan capital of Managua said and felt in San José, though not as strong as in the northern zone in Nicoya, Santa Cruz, Liberia and San Carlos.

Last January was the month with the most activity when 10 earthquakes were registered. Last month, in June, 7 quakes were felt, the strongest on June 30 that hit 5.6 on the Richter scale.

No reports of injuries or damage.

The best time for a ((((((QUAKE)))))))

Is at the exact moment you and your Novia are in the thrills of passion.

The worst time for a ((((((QUAKE))))))

There was a 5.3 the previous afternoon at 3:26 PM that woke me up in bed during my siesta    Thought it might be Hand Solo next door in action
The lamp poles in room were shaking back and forth for about 30 seconds, then subsided. Obviously a preshock for the 6.7 yesterday.
So far no damage reports, hope no mas

Cygnuts

thought the same thing as a newbie....Heart attack, must still be drunk, anxiety only, as the 5th floor is crashing, or one hell of a windopane flashback from the 70's!!!

Cmon Gman...don't tell me you were even phased by a minor 6.7 quake!
That's f*cking nothing! Were you residing in Miami in 1993 (?) when Hurricane Andrew hit? After that, nothing should phase you. When you've got a category 5 hurricane looking you in the face, with 160 to 180 mph winds bearing down on you...well, that's when you get on your knees and start praying!
Apparently the last time the Irazu volcano in CR erupted was in the early sixties around the time JFK visited CR. I hope it doesn't erupt again, but you never know. I like Cartago. Very few people know about the 'action' in Cartago. Dapanz1 knows what I'm talking about. If the Irazu erupts, Cartago will be the first area hit.
