You can have the last word here if you'd like, because this will be my last post on this subject. If you want to believe that 2+2=5 and that Al Gore is the anti-Christ, that is totally your prerogative.
I'll leave you with this. I see that you are from Canada. Clearly, then, you are familiar with the Northwest Passage. Now there is no one arguing about this. Fifty years ago, it was not possible to navigate the Northwest Passage unless you were in one of those badass icebreaker boats. Right now, you can cruise right on through. The reason for that, and I'm not sure I can oversimplify this enough.. is because alot of the ice has...melted. If you don't believe me, gas up your boat - pump a little CO2 in the air, and make the journey from one side of Canada to the other. No one can stop you. You will be doing something that a crapload of early explorers wanted to do but couldn't. Now I will admit that this could be a vast left wing conspiracy. There is always the outside chance, however unlikely, that the polar bears all got together with a whole bunch of hairdryers, and melted away that damn ice. They're getting theirs now though, aren't they??
Lastly, and I say this with all sincerity and without sarcasm... don't waste too much time hating people you don't know. If you told me that Al Gore used to steal your lunch money in elementary school, I'd be right there with you saying Phuck him. I voted against George Bush because I wasn't convinced he was smarter than my cat. And I think alot of his policies did some pretty severe short term damage to the United States and the world. But I don't think for a minute that was his intention. I say this not because I'm naive, but because I know how these people think. I have been lobbying and doing political consulting my whole adult life. Trust me when I tell you this. There are no vast conspiracies, left wing or right. It just doesn't work like that. What is true is money dominates the process. You would be very dismayed if you saw how easy it was for someone like me to convince an elected official to vote a certain way - or to simply shutup - because someone gave us a nice five or six figure check. So when you are reading the propaganda that is put out there- which you are- ask yourself who wrote the article and why? I don't watch Fox News for the same reason I don't watch Rachael Maddow... because it isn't news. It's hype. And I don't watch CNN because I still have some of my brain left and it's frustrating when they try to suck out what is left. In this day and age it is as hard as ever to find truly unbiased information out there. So I think its best to listen to people that are smarter than me (not hard to find) and decide for myself whether they have an agenda. In the case of our discussion, I am convinced beyond all doubt that the only ones left that have a platform and dismiss the fact (not theory) of global warming have an agenda. I don't say its a conspiracy, because its not. They are not hiding. But if you look at the organizations that are really sticking to their guns denying the truth - just take a look at who is funding them. When in doubt, follow the loot. Cheers to you Devo - keep an open mind.
The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.
