I looked up the word 'hypocrite' in the dictionary, and it had a picture of Al Gore

I couldn't agree with your statement more. "I find it bewildering that people could be deceived so easily".

Just because it's not raining sulfur doesn't mean that Al Gore was wrong for crying out loud. In the scientific community, climate change is no longer a subject of debate. It is as factual as the world being round. And yes, man-made CO2 emissions are the chief cause of climate change / global warming. But no one is saying that Florida is going to be underwater by Christmas. It seems like the people that continue to have their head in the sand are gonna need to wake up with a foot of water in their kitchen to believe what scientists are trying to tell them. You used the right word.. "bewildering".

I guess the part I don't get is why the right gets so worked up about this. While all of the world leaders have accepted the reality of climate change, (You may have an ally or two in Iran or Saudi Arabia on this one Devo) there really is no serious effort to do anything about it. So relax, no one is going to force you to drive a Prius and you won't wake up to Al Gore putting up a windmill in your backyard anytime soon.

The oil companies and car manufactures won this battle a long time ago, when we weren't even paying attention.

Jazz, like most believers of man made global warming, is falsely equating climate change with intentionally polluting the environment via his reference to air quality in China. Essentially what they are saying is "if you deny man made global warming then you support dumping poison in the rivers and probably burn tires to heat your house".

The catastrophic predictions of opportunistic sleazeballs like Al Gore have never came true. Not even once. The climate change they warned us about never happened, so they moved the goal posts and renamed the scam. It is absolutely bewildering to me that people can be deceived so easily.

Devo

I don't know anybody saying that mankind caused global warming--we're just making it worse and sooner. The scientific evidence is clear and 99.9% of climatologists agree, deniers be damned. Timing of the rolling catastrophe is a whole 'nother story--nobody can predict that with any degree of accuracy. Al Gore: hyperbolic--yes; opportunistic sleazeball--not so much.

Do you have some evidence of Mr. Gore's hypocrisy or is this just a quasi-funny attempt at humor?

Where do you guys get this notion that the science is settled, or 99% of scientists agree that man made global warming is real? Perhaps Al Gore or the Huffington Post is telling you this. There is an equal number of scientists that will tell you that man made global warming is a scam.

Man made global warming is a scheme designed to redistribute wealth around the world, and make millions of dollars for those who oversee the con.

I find it hilarious that only a few years ago, Al Gore was the head guru for global warming. People watched his movies and hung on his every word like obedient sheep. Meanwhile Gore flew around the world on his private jet while purchasing carbon credits from himself.

Of course most of us never believed this full of shit parasite politician with absolutely zero background in climate. Now that he has been exposed as a lying con man everyone is running from him.

You can have the last word here if you'd like, because this will be my last post on this subject. If you want to believe that 2+2=5 and that Al Gore is the anti-Christ, that is totally your prerogative.

I'll leave you with this. I see that you are from Canada. Clearly, then, you are familiar with the Northwest Passage. Now there is no one arguing about this. Fifty years ago, it was not possible to navigate the Northwest Passage unless you were in one of those badass icebreaker boats. Right now, you can cruise right on through. The reason for that, and I'm not sure I can oversimplify this enough.. is because alot of the ice has...melted. If you don't believe me, gas up your boat - pump a little CO2 in the air, and make the journey from one side of Canada to the other. No one can stop you. You will be doing something that a crapload of early explorers wanted to do but couldn't. Now I will admit that this could be a vast left wing conspiracy. There is always the outside chance, however unlikely, that the polar bears all got together with a whole bunch of hairdryers, and melted away that damn ice. They're getting theirs now though, aren't they??

Lastly, and I say this with all sincerity and without sarcasm... don't waste too much time hating people you don't know. If you told me that Al Gore used to steal your lunch money in elementary school, I'd be right there with you saying Phuck him. I voted against George Bush because I wasn't convinced he was smarter than my cat. And I think alot of his policies did some pretty severe short term damage to the United States and the world. But I don't think for a minute that was his intention. I say this not because I'm naive, but because I know how these people think. I have been lobbying and doing political consulting my whole adult life. Trust me when I tell you this. There are no vast conspiracies, left wing or right. It just doesn't work like that. What is true is money dominates the process. You would be very dismayed if you saw how easy it was for someone like me to convince an elected official to vote a certain way - or to simply shutup - because someone gave us a nice five or six figure check. So when you are reading the propaganda that is put out there- which you are- ask yourself who wrote the article and why? I don't watch Fox News for the same reason I don't watch Rachael Maddow... because it isn't news. It's hype. And I don't watch CNN because I still have some of my brain left and it's frustrating when they try to suck out what is left. In this day and age it is as hard as ever to find truly unbiased information out there. So I think its best to listen to people that are smarter than me (not hard to find) and decide for myself whether they have an agenda. In the case of our discussion, I am convinced beyond all doubt that the only ones left that have a platform and dismiss the fact (not theory) of global warming have an agenda. I don't say its a conspiracy, because its not. They are not hiding. But if you look at the organizations that are really sticking to their guns denying the truth - just take a look at who is funding them. When in doubt, follow the loot. Cheers to you Devo - keep an open mind.

The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie -- deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic. Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.

Jazz- a 10,000 square foot house in Tenn and a 6,500 square foot house are a real conservation of resources, let alone traveling the world on private planes.
I will give him a few props for the solar panels on the Tenn. house. In 2006 his utility bills were 30k for the year for the Tenn. house.

Well said Gator Hater, no matter what side of the aisle you are on, one thing is true, "If you are not seated at the dinner table, you are being carved up at the dinner table."

We have to be good stewards of Mother Earth...b/c that's all we are, it's not ours. And I am a good steward as an avid sportsman who utilizes it. That being said, I don't need someone who takes a private helicopter to a golf game, a single rider taking 747 to a campaign event with another 747 at same location tell me driving my SUV is bad for the environment  What the what :?:

Now, back to the topic, this canal is really bothersome. And this is one of those times when I wish those "nutty environmentalist and greenpeace types" jumped in. I don't live in Nicaragua, never been there, but do love their products...Nicas(aahhh that jackhammer position), Flor de Cana, and puros; and I really worry about tampering with a such a resource as Lake Nicaragua. That being said, I am very doubtful the project even goes a quarter of the way.

Un mas cosa: Again, political debate, right or left, climate change(does it exist or not?) aside....common sense is common sense and those photos Jazz posted are downright scary. How could governments and people accept to live that way? Chinese people wearing mask b/c of air quality? Air quality a top cause of deaths in India? These folks need to wake up and demand better for themselves.

I join with Bro Gator Hater in quitting this increasingly pointless and puerile "discussion".

BangBang57, you are one of my favorite posters on CRT. Your style reminds me of Irish Drifter (RIP) who I miss reading.

We will never agree on man made global warming, but I would buy you a beer just the same. :)
