I for one only use the word "Whore" or "Puta" when I am talking about a woman that has either done something awful to me or someone I know and has earned the association. Also for me it does not matter what a woman does for a living, in the sex business or not, if she qualifies then its appropriate. For me those two words rank right up there with the word Cunt though so I reserve them only for really deserving people.

But to add a little more to the discussion- OK, maybe a lot more! : Every response here so far has been solely and totally based on "Gringo morals, customs. philosophy, conditioning, beliefs" with no consideration of what is accepted, the norm, customs, etc. in other countries (in this specific case - Costa Rica). Contrary to what has been stated in another thread, Based on what I have seen and experienced in CR over the last 20 years, many (especially middle, upper-middle, and upper class, but really in ALL levels of income, education, and social standing) the word "puta" has become an everyday word by most if not all Ticos (and Ticas)! It is used in commenting on almost anything or anyone they do not like, that upsets them, that frustrates them, and even friends. Also it is often used with a prefix or suffix. It might be used referring to the weather, their car, the cost of something, how they feel, how someone is dressed, and on and on, and about another person or another persons actions!! This is something that has come about over the last 20 or so years just as the use of the work "F--K" has crept into the everyday language of most North Americans (both male and female)! As an example of what I am trying to say--hijo de PUTA translates in English to basically the same as "son of a bitch" not son of a prostitute!!!!

As to whether SHE is a puta, a whore, a prostitute, escort, working chica, or what ever, these are just words, ALL referring basically to the same thing- a female or I guess even a male (trannies), who sells her body for sexual favors in exchange for money, material things, or for anything of value. Yes, there are different levels of niceness, politeness, depending on who or what group of people you are talking with or about. BUT regardless, they ALL still mean the same thing!! Yes puta is the "slang word in Spanish just as whore is in English but both puta and whore have come to have many meanings and levels of offense to different people. Every "working chica" in Costa Rica is a puta, a prostitute, nothing more - nothing less!!!! We use the terms "simi-pro" or "part time puta"; well guess what she is a prostitute, period! And as is often said- "Once a puta, always a puta"!!! Don't get me wrong, I respect and like most of the chicas here and what they do; and the "why they do it" though that is often a matter of false reasoning on their part. Actually I consider most of them to be hard working, honest (well maybe not so much  ), chicas who feel they have no other choice in life. Many really do like what they are doing; many do not!! And that difference really shows its face almost always   thou some are much better actresses than others.

Many "working chicas" can frequently be heard using the word "puta", especially when referring to the other "working chicas", even their good friends. Often it is used more in "jest" than in disrespect and is often not considered terrible derogatory! And if they are upset with or dislike another chica, you can be sure they will refer to her as "puta" and in this case, yes it is derogatory!! It infers much the same meaning as "that bitch/ you bitch" does in the states.

I never use the word when talking to a "working chica"! Would never call one a "puta" to her face unless I was extremely upset with her in which case I would have probably walked away or kicked her out long before I got that angry. Having grown up in the 40s, 50s and early 60s, I would (almost) never use the F word in mixed company. I also do not use English nor Spanish "curse" words (or words considered inappropriate) in mixed company here when talking with my Tico friends. That said, just as in the States, many (especially the younger generations) do! When posting on here (CRT) and referring to a chica I do not care for because of something she has done to me or a friend (or to any monger really), yes, I might (most likely WILL) refer to her as a puta!- talking to that same chica face to face, I would not likely call her a puta!!

The thing that really upsets me the most is some (many?) Gringos!!!!! Most guys who come here seem to do so partly because of their dislike of the way they are treated by Gringas in the States. They complain constantly about the domineering, bossy, bad attitude, women in the States. I have done the same thing, but the truth is THEY ARE THAT WAY BECAUSE MEN HAVE ALLOWED THEM TO BECOME THAT WAY! MEN in the States have bowed down to, given in to, been dictated to, and in general been afraid of women in the states since coming home from the 2nd world war and finding women in the work place instead of at home being the good little housewife and mother 24/7. Women would not be the way they are if the men(?) of the last 60 years had continued to treat women with respect but also with authority like they did before the 2nd WW.

These same Gringos are coming here and "teaching" the Latinas to be the same way Gringas are by cowing down to them, treating them like they are Goddesses, giving in to them instead of insisting on what he wants! They are doing the same old "yes dear", "what ever you say dear", constantly worrying about what "she" will think or do, or NOT do! These MEN(?) are (in the case of working chicas) PAYING FOR A SERVICE, a service that they want preformed a certain way, a service that is suppose to please THEM!!! Yet very often it is the chica who is in total charge of the BUSINESS TRANSACTION!! It is the chica who is telling him what she will do and not do, and the poor lil meek guy just accepts her conditions!! This "fantasy" bullshit is just that!! It is a business transaction! There is no love, no romance, no true affection!! It is "make believe"!! Any guy that can so easily believe in a fantasy being any more than what it is, a hour of (hopefully good GFE sex, has a real problem and really should not be attempting to monger!!!

There IS a difference in being nice to and respecting the chicas but ALWAYS being the in charge, PAYING CUSTOMER, verses cowing down to, giving in to, and letting them "run the show" and telling you what will be and will not be!!

Years ago this board was full of posts about individual chicas! It was a board of MEN discussing the working chicas and what they did and did not do, how good or bad they were, what they looked like, where they worked (could be found); it was MEN condemning anyone who gave into RFMs, who let a chica take advantage of them, or who put the desires of the chicas over those of fellow mongers!! It was MEN with a sense of adventure, a desire to have fun, to explore, to find their strengths and weaknesses! Little was taken seriously, and we all had a desire to share what info we had. Yes, I think we all knew that many chicas had access to and could read CRT, but we did not really care!! After all this was (and is? ) a discussion board for the purpose of sharing info about the chicas and different locations here in CR. If everyone is going to be so worried about upsetting and offending the chicas that they do not post (or remove their posts because a chica complained) then what is this board other than a place for local businesses to advertise  :?:

Today few ever post about specific chicas for fear of her worshipers condemning, threatening, or insulting the poster. It has become a place where it is more important to bow down to, give in to, and protect the chica, than a place to find info. This is exactly the reason many members from the early years of CRT have quit posting. It is the reason many have quite reading CRT- (total lack of really valuable info)!!

I am well aware that many reading all this will not agree with a lot of it; will be very upset with me; will resort to even "calling me out", to name calling, to being angry that I would even post such things. To those I say: Maybe you should come down out of your "fantasy" world and check out the "real world"!!!! Everything I have posted is my opinion based on what I have witnessed, have seen, have experienced first hand! Just as you are entitled to your opinion, I am entitled to mine!! Differences is what makes the world go round and life interesting!!

So, that said, get off your high horses and explain to me how, why and when should we use these words when DISCUSSING OR DESCRIBING a working girl in the gulch. I'm not being a jerk here, I am genuinely interested in hearing how you guys feel we should describe the chicas. And as everyone will have an opinion, let's not dogpile on the outriders.

Ok, so I am in Calle Seis with a "lady". I give her $18 to blow me bareback and swallow the load. Is she a "whore"? (I am not saying to call her one to her face, I am asking if you think it's a fair statement that this young woman is a whore.) Am I wrong to use the word in a forum post about her? Am I degrading her by using it? Am I degrading her by using the word "prostitute"?

As for "puta", it is the ONLY word I have heard the locals use when discussing this group. I have never heard the word "prostituta" used, even in homes. Prostitution may be legal, and it may be accepted, but it not respected as a form of work, *if* the word "puta" is a derogatory term as some have stated.

What do you think?

I think you need to stop barking up this tree, relax, and eat a little humble pie.

"Puta" is a derogatory word. No matter how many working girls tell your gringo face "Oh, it's OK we call each other 'puta' all the time we're all 'putas' here hahaha", it's an ugly, impolite word.

Using it in ignorance just shows you're ignorant - like the n00bs who think tica means hooker. Insisting on using it despite having been told it's derogatory says something about the character of the person doing so.

However, by all means feel free to use it as often as you like when you want to be rude or denigrate a woman who sells sex for a living.

Heck, just go down Avenida Central and greet every woman you meet, "Hey Puta!". You'll be fine.

"So when is a prostitute a whore, and when is she a puta?" I had to read it again and laugh! WHAT A STUPID THREAD!! IS THIS THE NEW CRT?

Bottom line - Just like a White Guy should NOT go around using the N word to black guys/girls. No GRINGO should go around using the P word (PUTA) to Latinas! If they want to call each other that - so be it. But NO GRINGO should be running around calling them PUTAS!!

Agree with you +1000 Bang Bang guys are getting soft. We need to get our BALLS back from women before they ALL become lesbians!!!

"Every "working chica" in Costa Rica is a puta, a prostitute, nothing more - nothing less!!!!"

Guess we know where you stand. They are not human. They are not important. They are what they do. Your opinions are based on your experiences and knowledge of how some elements of Costa Rican society view women. Being from the southern United States and growing up during the 50s I witnessed other people being referred to in derogatory ways and considered less than human. There were plenty of people around who held these ideas. Those, same people would be referred to as racist, bigots, sexist, homophobes. I learned to judge people for who they were, not what they did for a living, where they went to church, their race or sex. Growing up I was taught to respect people. Respect includes not saying behind someone's back what you would not say to their face.

Some people know that their time spent mongering is time spent in fantasy fulfillment. They know it is not real. Others actually believe that women like them. They are the ones that need to get in the real world. If the only reason you monger is for the opportunity to have sex, you limit the experience. Mongering this way is strictly a business transaction, best done with a contract and a time clock. Best place to do it this way is half hour sessions at mps.

Puta, whore, prostitute are just words. Just as WOP, wetback, mick, gook are just words. The use of language reflects personal attitudes, education, intelligence. How you express yourself is a good indicator of how secure you feel in life. Expressing oneself as superior to others is a telltale sign of insecurity. I'm not much but I'm better than you. Insecure people feel safer in groups and behave the way they perceive the group will approve.

Nothing prohibits you from discussing the women you frequent on this forum. As you have pointed out in the past, putting photos of women on the forum without their permission can create problems for them and you have condemned those who did. I find it hypocritical, complaining because a thread that did the same thing was removed by the person initiating the thread not because he was intimidated but because he realized something he said was causing a problem for someone he liked.

Put them in their place, get what you want, be a man, its just a business transaction. Some would say if we were real men we wouldn't have to pay for it.

Actually, this is one of the better threads in a while. Everyone (myself included) trying like Ch*ldren to assert our own personal opinions on a completely subjective topic.

Then we got guys taking personal jabs at each other, and others getting defensive and falling back on the old "you're just ignorant ... but I'm not, I'm enlightened!" statements. <jab jab>

A good SMACK thread, IMHO.

That isn't at question. "Prostitute" is even uglier, as it is indefensible, direct, specific, and completely denigrating to their lives, and not just to an activity.

Using it in ignorance just shows you're ignorant - like the n00bs who think tica means hooker. Insisting on using it despite having been told it's derogatory says something about the character of the person doing so.
Apples and Oranges. "Tica" means something in their culture, and misusing it in full knowledge is a purposeful insult. "Puta" also means something in their culture, and the question here is whether using it at all is acceptable.

However, by all means feel free to use it as often as you like when you want to be rude or denigrate a woman who sells sex for a living.
Heck, just go down Avenida Central and greet every woman you meet, "Hey Puta!". You'll be fine.
Again bud: no one is talking about using these words in their faces. But you already knew that and you're just twisting the argument.

This is a pointless and wasteful argument. It deflates every point you are trying to make. There is a clear difference between what you are describing and what we are talking about.

Let me show you how it detracts, by making another hallow argument:

Is is wrong to call a thief a thief? Is it wrong to call a cheater a cheater? It insults them, and hurts their feelings. <not the point of the thread>

This thread is not about looking someone in the face and purposefully hurting them. The thread asks if/when is a sex worker a whore?

The word "puta" is harder to defend because it has very specific cultural usage, and as I do not even speak Spanish, I can only go by what I hear in the streets and what my brothers on the board tell me as their experiences (which *IS* the point of this smack-thread).

The word "whore" is our own, yet it seems different people have different interpretations on its usage. Example: is the word "whorehouse" unacceptable?

Not jumping on yer back, Pops. Just saying not to cloud the topic with the "N"-word argument. That is a completely different thing.

I tend to use the term "Sex Worker" when referring to anyone (male or female) who makes their living in the sex trade. Like professional athletes, they are entertainers who get paid good money because they are the very best at what they do. Because the sex trade is a profession, sex workers deserve to be referred to in a professional manner. "Sex Worker" seems to be as good a term as any in achieving that purpose.

Is Tica synonymous with puta? The consensus is no. But a Tica can engage in prostitution? Is anyone ever defined simply by one word? How you describe people reflects your attitude about them, your education level, your insecurities. We do what we do in life based on our experiences and beliefs. Choosing to call a woman a whore, a puta, a bitch, a cunt is a decision we make as individuals. Most of us see these terms to be derogatory. They are not respectful descriptions. And still, the terms are used by people who on a one on one basis would do anything they could to help these girls. CRT is a community of similar minded individuals, a group, and men are insecure and feel more comfortable in groups. Using locker room vocabulary is acceptable in this group. It is neither right nor wrong. Ideally, we judge people by more than what they do for a living, what they say (which often is not what they feel), who they have sex with, where they were born, how much money they have, their race or religion.

I am of the opinion that you never get sex for free. Whether you rent it short time, buy it in a marriage, or just put up with being with someone you really don’t like, you pay for it one way or the other. In other words, all women are professionals, the terms just vary. In nature, females seek the most dominant male they can get. Males normally seek quantity. How many women you are with does not make you a MAN. It just reflects your sexual appetite and ability to pay. You can get more women if you insist on paying less. Insisting on getting what you want in a negotiation does not make you a MAN. Just a strong negotiator. A man is someone who goes to work every day to provide for his family. A MAN may hate his work but continues to do it because he perceives it is in the best interest of people he cares for. He sells himself for the money. He is willing to prostitute himself if that is what it takes to fulfill his responsibilities in life.
If we monger, we negotiate. How well we negotiate depends on the individual. It is a business transaction. We pay for a service. We have a right to know if the service will be what we are looking for and for what price. Services and price are negotiable. They have as much right to say no to providing services, as you do for saying this is what you will pay for the service. If you don’t like the terms, you are free to take your business elsewhere.

I am bald. Paying five dollars for a haircut is extravagant for me. If I had BB57’s hair, $10 might be reasonable. If I had Bill Gate’s money, would $100 be too much? I would never pay $100 for tickets to a sporting event I could watch on TV for free. How much we pay for anything depends on what we as individuals perceive it is worth. What you think is a stupid amount to pay for sex, I may think is cheap and taking advantage of a desperate young woman.

When I negotiate, the service I seek is completely different from what you are looking for. Should I pay the same? Since you have no idea of what I seek or receive in a session, do you have a right to comment on whether I paid too little or too much? The answer is yes. But are your comments intelligent?
It is time for a new tread.

WHAT I NEGOTIATE FOR /WHAT DO YOU NEGOTIATE FOR?

I would add that an individual's perceptions of other people and groups is also shaped by their exposure to said people and groups. Has your perception of prostitutes changed over the past 50+ years? Has exposure to the mongering scene had any effect upon how you perceive these chicas (and perhaps women in general)?

It should be apparent that a few trips to Costa Rica will open a guys eyes to the situation at home with gringas (they may think they know it, but seeing a different culture's attitudes brings it home). I think it is easier to dismiss prostitutes with a derogatory word when you don't actually know any of them, or feel that being a 'john' is beneath you. However, once you begin mongering and meeting these 'people', you *should* gain a different perspective on them, their lives, and indeed your own.

TOTAL BULLSHIT :!: Who wrote that garbage, Greengo  :P  or some guy who comes here once or twice a year from the USA, walks into the REY, and a week later walks out of the REY to go to the Air Port?

In Costa Rica there are a little over 2 million females with close to half that number fitting into the age group stated. Even being conservative with the numbers that would be say 800,000 over say a maximum of 35 year age range. That would be almost 23000 a year. Over the years many different groups and organizations have estimated the number of women working in the "profession" at any given time to be between 3000 and 5000. Right now there are roughly 100 MPs and Piensions with an average of less than 10 chicas each (1000 max); 30 night clubs with about the same number of chicas in each (300 max); bars - aproximately100 with less than 5 each - (less than 500); independents -maybe 1000 max at any given time. Throw in a generous number of part timers, say 1000 and you are up to less than 3800. Even if each only worked 6 months that would be less than 8000 a year (average working times has been estimated at 2 years)!!!! Add to that the fact that over the last 20+ years close to half the number working at any given time are from other countries which would cut the number of TICAS in half!! Most of the numbers are, in my humble opinion, very high; but even if close to actual numbers it would be a max of about 15% of the Ticas.

The original comment is about as absurd as the often stated "fact" that "EVERY TICA" has a baby by the age of 15!! :? Simply is not even close to accurate! Over the last 20 years I have met hundreds and hundreds of TICAS over the age of 18 who still did not have a baby. Hell, My landlady has 3 daughters, a 15yo student, a 25yo bilingual professional with a USA company, and a 28yo Doctor, non of which have had a Ch*ld. And all 3 are beautiful young ladies and they all like to party with their friends!!!! And all 3 have many Tica friends, non of whom have Babi*s!!!!!

"When one ONLY looks down, one ONLY sees the ground! When one looks all around himself, he sees true life"!!!!!!

One more point, The vast majority of "working chicas", whether Ticas, Nicas, Colombian, or any other nationality, that I have met over the last 20 years of visiting and living in CR have been decent, hard working, women just trying the only way they know how to make a living for themselves and their families. Sure, there are some (the more desperate ones or the ones who end up on drugs) that are "bad", but the majority are honest, nice, friendly, and just plain "wonderful" young ladies who most often do not like what they are doing but feeding their families is more important!! Most are just that, "working chicas" doing a difficult job trying to please men and give us men some pleasure in life!! But sadly there are a small percentage (the extremely hard-core and the druggies) who are only interested in what they can get out of guys and will do anything and say anything to take advantage of guys in order to separate them from as much $$$$ as possible in as short a time as possible. Though I agree with other comments here and would NEVER call any chica a "puta" to her face, THESE CHICAS ARE 'PUTAS' in my opinion!!!!

Well said, BB. I have befriended many of the working girls I have been with and got to know them as individuals, not just moaning, groaning and blowing tight body fkkk pals. Many were highly intelligent, many had fun crazy personalities, many were considerate and honest and appreciative, in short, they cannot and should not be defined by their chosen profession (I know many decent and moral car salesmen and attorneys) but like everyone else, judged on how they lead their lives and how they treat others.

Many of these women are uneducated and have one or more Ch*ldren, their boyfriends or ex husbands often disappear and they are left with no skill or education, only a pretty face, decent body and numerous Americans and Canadians down here with more money than they know what to do with. Most of them made the decision to enter the sex industry to insure their Ch*ldren a good home, food on the table and a chance at life. To me, that is incredibly honorable, to enter into this tough profession to take care of their Ch*ld or Ch*ldren.

One of my favorites from years ago was living with her mother and younger brother and sister, father missing in action. Mother passed away when she was just 18 or 19 and her younger brother and sister were slated for an orphanage, they would be split up. She entered the profession, raised the two younger siblings and went to college on her services, she was quite gorgeous and always in demand. She sacrificed herself to keep her family together and care for them, all the while continuing her education to better her life. How many of us would make a sacrifice of this nature for our siblings???

When guys who dismiss these women as "whores" or "putas" and cop an attitude take one to bed, the women can detect how they feel and deliver the minimum, perhaps well deserved. Many of my favorites who I got to really know (and them, me) realized that I liked them, cared about them and respected them. Those were the ones who always delivered mind boggling GFE's, treating them with the respect they deserve is not only the right thing to do, it pays off in spades!!!! 8) 8) 8) :D :D :D
