I recently stayed in the Best Western Hotel Kamuk, which was reasonable and comfortable. There are many hotels on the three miles or so of road to the beaches of Manuel Antonio, you might do a search for the Hotel "Mariposa" and you will find some threads discussing hotels in the area.

AS Chesscat has said,

There are many hotels between Quepos and Manual Antonio.
The best Hotel in Quapos is the Kamuk.

I really like the Costa Verde Inn. Regular rooms about $65 a night. Check their website. Be sure you are looking at the MA property, and not the one in Escazu.

The Blue Monkey is up the road from Quepos. I stayed there for 2 days in early April and found it enjoyable and relaxing. If I remember correctly, the cost was roughly $45/night. It's not the SL (what is?) but it's comfortable.

I stayed at Costa Verde in January and got a huge (6 ceiling fans) suite for $100 per night. You can probably do better in the off season and by reserving online. Beautiful corner suite with one side looking at the ocean and the other looking at the monkeys. Large bathroom with huge shower with room for 2. Large in room safe with your own digital combo. It is about half way between Quepos and Manuel Antonio. Flew Sansa Air to get there and took a bus back to San Jose.

Gringo Malo updates my earlier impression. Its been a while since I've been there, but the place is a very good value. The "suites" are really big. Most no a/c, but not really needed. Place is owned/run by a quirky gringo whose ideas are cool. At least in my opinion. Its also just about the best place to be sure to see the squirrel monkey (endangered species). If you're not staying there, go eat/drink at the Anaconda at dusk and you will have a good chance of seeing them.

The Best Western Kamuk is in a good location in town right on the main drag. The best room in the hotel is number 221. It has a semi private patio area overlooking the pool. For mongering there is Wacky Wanda's directly across the street along with other establishments very close by.

If Oliver who runs the front desk is on duty, tip him a couple of thousand colones and he will take care of you. There's also a small casino in the hotel.

Dalvy,
Thats good information. Looks like your first post. We are always getting questions about action in Quepos, and most of us find little to be had. Sounds like you did some good. Hope you will post amplification on the subject on the General Information chapter. Perhaps you have, and I haven't read it yet. Did you do a trip report on Quepos?

Thanks for the info guys...ended up staying at the Kamuk. However, got the wrong room facing street. Here's the non- sugar coated version:

Although the room was fairly nice (tile floors) and reasonably priced ($61 per nght tax included) there was WAY too much street noise even for off season. Example: US has exported one of our more annoying forms of auto resale parts for small cars-the supered up loud ass annoying BONZAI mufflers. All night long (until 5 AM tues morn) these "punk" gang-banger wannabees sped up and down the street with stereos & mufflers blasting. The muffler noise has the high pitched "C" note to it that wakes you up even with ear muffs on. Drove me nuts. Beds were uncomfortable/flimsy, which seems to be a theme in CR, but for price I didn't whine.

Hotels up on the hill (enroute to Man Anton) are better/quieter.

Restaurant Mar Luna was good & I paid $15 for some of best Yellow Fin Tuna steaks I've had in a while. Gran Escape restaurant (main frame in town) is pricey and over-rated...with real small portions.
Cafe Milargo (on the hill/not in town) had really good/fresh coffee.

A growing number of Americans/Dutch/Europeans appear to be moving to area (some permanent -others vacation homes). Century 21 has American office in town. A few darn good internet cafes. Some American charter/Fishing Captains have also begun to stage in the area. New developments near Man Anto (all gringo developers). US developers are building a large ambitious marina in the area. Biggest selling point...no hurricanes....and some of best sport fishing grounds in the West hemisphere.
Those were the good americans with positive attitudes....the others were the annoying Green Peace d*pe smoker, spoiled, young adult crowd who seem to dress and act like trash (my impressions along with few other americans at the bar). They come complete with birkenstock sandals, unwashed clothes, and ratty dogs which they let run all over the resturaunts. Apparently they're trind to "find themselves" in Costa Rica. They also seem to want to rage against the machine.

Good point about not staying in Quepos. I think you're right. Quepos is fine to do a little partying, but the hotels on the Manuel Antonio road are a lot classier and more peaceful.

Anyone reading this thread who doesn't know the area: Its very easy to stay "on the M.A. road" without having a car. Combi taxis troll all day (for $1) and the bus comes by every 30 minutes (almost free; maybe 25 cents).

Marlin, it does seem curious to me how many references you have in your posts (not just this one) about the United States/Americans, for a web site about Costa Rica. Look through them & count. Many of us on the site are not from the U.S.

Can you recommend any hotels on way to MA? How much? How long in taxi from Quepos to MA. Thanks.
