I am a top contributor to Tripadvisor. The best way to utilize the site is to check a restaurant or hotel that has a large amount of reviews and see what the consensus show. A larger sample is likely to be less skewed towards fake reviews.

+1 to what BondTrader said about Lost Iguana Resort.
I stayed there twice. Nice rooms, good food, swim up bar in the pool and a spa that will provide romantic massages to you and your novia together to the sound of the running stream below and and scented candles.
They offer free transport to La Fortuna and arrange all sorts of recreational activities at your request.
They offer some bargain discounts during green season. Check it out.

I have previously stayed at Lost Iguana Resort. It is upscale but affordable. Beautiful location and what I like about it is that it is a bit "off the beaten path" with still incredible views of Arenal but away enough from the more centrally located "touristy" hotels you have a better feeling of privacy and being much closer to nature while still a few minutes drive from Arenal and La Fortuna.

Genie and I stay in La Fortuna at Hotel Bijagua and enjoyed it. It has a fantastic view of the volcano, assuming it isn't shrouded in clouds like last June. We stayed in a little bungalo. I would stay there again for sure. Neat little town and plenty to do in the area.

I stayed at the Baldi hot springs resort in April 2014. A little pricy at $200 per night, buy you get a full pass to the springs. I think they get $40.00 per day for that. A free sit down breakfast every morning, and an unbelievable free dinner buffet at least once a week. 5 star hotel.
