I would really give Del Rey a chance. I finally made it down on Halloween after 11 trips, (or 10?), ended up staying at DR. Had a fantastic time and spent less than I ever had because I was not taking taxi's all the time.
Give it a chance.

I'm pretty sure Zona 2 and Scores are closed during that time period (dec 24 to jan 4). San Jose is a ghost town. I hear Jaco will be packed but I think it's more a family-style gathering. The hotels in Jaco will be very expensive if not already full and it will probably be difficult to even get there. If you are planning to go to Jaco you better make your reservations now. I'm curious to hear about your experience.

I went to San Jose during both New Year's and Easter one year. It wasn't a complete wash but I doubt I would ever do it again.

Should I skip San Jose then and head to DR?

That is correct we are closed the 21st of dec to the 5th of jan
