I can't think of a better way to relax on the Sabbath, what a fantasy to have her come visit you in her "church clothes"...

just want to point out to you two gentlemen that the Shabbat is actually from Friday evening until Saturday evening. The whole Sunday thing wasn't popularized until the 2nd or 3rd centuries. This change was, in fact, theocratic and not religious.

AND ... the whole Shabbat rule doesn't apply to non-jews anyway. It was cannonized in Leviticus as a part of the covenant between them and G*D.

In a nutshell, as a Gentile, she can do whatever she wants to do on Sunday. ... ... ... As Can We!!!

For what's its worth I wanted to defend why I choose to stay at the delrey while I am in san jose. I have been to cr three times and always spend a couple days in san jose on the front and back end of my trips.

As odd as it might sound when I am in San Jose I go to mp's during the day and over a three day stay I might only bang one or two girls from the DR so the guest fee isn't much of an issue for me.

1. I like to play poker and my experience over the last few trips is the best games are at the delrey. I like to have at least four buy ins on me at the table and I don't love the idea of travelling back and forth to the delrey with a pocket full of money if I didn't stay there.

2. I am a light cigarette smoker and like the green stuff so the delrey is great because they seem to allow you to smoke in your room. Way better than having to go outside! I am respectful so I will buy some Lysol spray so it doesn't stink too bad.

3. I love the idea of the random 3am hookup without leaving the hotel.

4. The room rates are reasonable and I am treated fairly well at the hotel.

There are certainly some negative aspects to staying at the delrey but I do think the pros outweigh the cons for me.

For those who read my posts, the following may sound out of character, but I honestly believe its your money and you get to spend it as you see fit - no need to justify how you do so.

I also like that the place (HDR) exists, but I would never recommend it as a place to stay - many reasons, that I've previously stated - and that is my right to choose - some hate the places I tend to stay - so what?

I am curious - based upon your handle - are you Indian, or East Asian?

Curious? Do any of the main hotels in San Jose allow smoking either officially or unofficially in the rooms? At the DR they have ashtrays in the rooms so I figured it was tolerated but if you inquire by e-mail they say its strictly forbidden.

The Hotel Del Rey is the cornerstone of the Gulch. Always has been, and probably will be, for quite a bit longer. I would never, ever, stay there myself. I like visiting seedy party places, but I would be too paranoid to ever sleep inside of one. If you're a younger, gambling, sex-crazed party animal... A room at the HDR is probably a perfect fit for you. Sincerely, to all who stay at the HDR... Thank You for being there. I want money pouring into HDR by the bucket-loads. SL will always be, by far, my personal number-one place, but shutting the doors of HDR would be like dropping a Nuke on the downtown mongering scene.

As far as the Gulch goes, stay at HDR, LA, SL, ML, Scores, Z2... whatever... They're all a stone's throw from each other. Stay at the one that you like the best... But don't forget to make the rounds. All of those places, and a few more in the immediate area, have their own delightful charms.

As far as gambling goes, it's entertainment. Unless you're in a serious Poker room or at a Blackjack table with Vegas Downtown rules, you're not going to win. That's true in San Jose, Monaco, Tunica, Atlantic City, and everywhere else on the planet that has a Casino.

--------------------

As I once told True Sportsman...

NOBODY would go to Disneyland if it only had ONE RIDE. The symbiosis of the Gulch... The multiple attractions, and the truckloads of girls, are what make the Gulch what it is.

" If you're a younger, gambling, sex-crazed party animal... A room at the HDR is probably a perfect fit for you. Sincerely, to all who stay at the HDR... Thank You for being there. "

Well I stay there and have been staying there for 10 years, I'm not young, don't gamble and not a party animal. Sex crazed, yes, that's why I proudly proclaim myself "monger" 8) ...and you're welcome. 8)

Seriously, the rooms are large, comfortable and clean, nice showers, tv, wi fi and excellent maid service and any other maintenance request is handled quickly.

I wouldn't consider the HDR "seedy", like, say the capital of crudity, the Morazon. Perhaps the neighborhood can be considered seedy, say compared to the nice quiet neighborhood SL is in. Each his own, I like being in the belly of the beast and seeing the girls and being able to pick one morning noon and night.

If I wanted a quiet classy hotel in a nice neighborhood, SL or La Amistad come to mind. Some of the other choices may be nicer but their neighborhoods (over by Scores, Zona, Dunn and Mona) are just as bad and possibly worse. :!:

The Rey has its place in the Gringo/Gulch history timeline. It was at one time a good place to stay. I remember a chica in there zooming around in the bar in skates. I think a few things helped it lose the popularity it once had. When they took the restaurant out it took its toll. Charging a fee to take someone up was another point, but WTF, all guys there are in the Cien Boys Syndicate so that point might not matter to most. I think the best time is the afternoon when the Ticas are there to make some money and get back home to feed the K*ds after school. I leave the "physically enhanced, movie star wannabe chicas" to the Cien crowd. The venue is made for them. I am not criticizing, just making my point.

.....And on behalf of the Cien Boys Syndicate, we appreciate the "tightwad" crowd for clearing out all the overweight, $40 hookers before we get there..... :P

I will say this about HDR...

It is a victim of its own success. The HDR has rejected CRT and other "clubs" that offer discounts. The HDR has stuck with its "chica fee" policy. The HDR has encouraged the high-priced girls -- the "cien girls".

Now... many of those girls are so spoiled that they have abandoned HDR and headed off to even more lucrative venues (Cocal, etc.). You reap what you sow.

Srilm,

I read your business model in another post and it occurred to me the management of HDR is pretty much following it. They have high capacity room fills non stop, their revenue flow is like a Costa Rica waterfall. They created an incredible business model, took a dumpy old hotel in essentially a slum in a third world country and turned it into a monger must visit Mecca. They are so successful they don't care a twit what complaining CRT members say or do or think, and they charge visitation fees they know they can get away with, offsetting their tempting low nightly rates with at least one additional $11 a night per guest and the consumer still perceives the room rent to be $55 a night, brilliant! 8) 8) 8)

Recently I booked at Castillo and subsequently I was moved to Hemmingway Inn, due to renovations.
Upon arriving I immediately walked over to Del Rey to try and book a room. Fortunately they had a delux on the 5th floor. This was my 11th trip to CR.
Man, I really enjoyed my stay at DR. Nice room, great service. Such a change from walking or taking taxis back and forth. KL was also packed over halloween weekend. I totally agree with your assessment of stay at Del Rey. Had a very enjoyable trip.

What was the rate for that room/suite?

Just a couple of comments concerning netgem's and Sirlm's posts.

(1) If the rooms at the REY are ALWAYS full why did they cut the price in half during the US depression and STILL have not raised the price back up? Why is it that even when other popular venues are full you can still get a last minute room at the REY?? A very reliable source has stated that over the last 2 years the REY has averaged less than 60% occupancy!!!

(2) The REY and Sirlm"s "business model": It is a Gringo owned business dealing (mostly) with Gringos! If it had been aimed towards the Ticos from the beginning it would have never succeeded nor lasted. JMHO

When I got a room on Oct. 31st, they had two rooms available only due to cancelations. A regular room on 2nd floor for $54 and a delux on the 5th floor @ $110.
I'll stay at DR again.

I've been coming to the HDR since 2004, every year except 2007 thru 2009 when I lived here, the average rooms were around 45$ or so a night back then and they are about $55 a night now, I never saw them above this amount except for December and early January which all hotels raise their prices I believe.

I doubt HDR occupancy is as low as 60%, I'm no expert but every time I'm there and hanging around the front desk, sitting and watching the cavalcade of chicas, guys are constantly checking in, it's always bustling and busy.

I will say I once decided to stay at SL and called two weeks in advance and all the good rooms were booked, the girl taking reservations tried to trick us into the noisy rooms in the front but I caught her lying  , then called HDR and got our normal rooms. One time my crew decided on short notice, 3 days, to head down, the HDR was filled then, we ended up staying at Presidente, a beautiful hotel but liars on chica visitation policy, everyone stay away from them !!!!

It's a hoot if you love being in the belly of the beast, tripping the light fantastic and seeing and having access at all times to the most chicas possible, but if you like quieter, classier surroundings in nicer neighborhoods (although Zona, Mona and Scores neighborhood is just as suspect to me, SL and Amistad are nicer) with friendlier more personal staff, the other places are better choices. The majority of guys who stay at HDR are repeat visitors as opposed to the "theory" it's all rube newbies, I talk to many of these guys every visit, they don't know or care about CRT and the "prevailing wisdom". They continue to stay there, have fun, get laid and party down...

Hey Net.........

Here's a "better fantasy" , which was really an "actuality."

In the HLH days, the legendary Karen was going to school to get her GED. I used to help her with her math homework on the benches at HLH.

One day, she came to work at HLH directly from school, wearing her school uniform with her books under her arm.

I couldn't resist....... I pounced IMMEDIATELY.

I got to take off her school uniform in my room, and had the usual SPECTACULAR time that she is famous for providing.

When we were finished, she put on her "work uniform" and want back to work in the bar.

I love that girl.

What an experience!!!

Many years later I still remember my Karen encounters as I'm sure several here as well as you do, they all were splendid, she is a sweet loving giving patient magnificent beauty, too bad she's retired, I still recommend you encounter her "student" shhhhhhh.....

That's my main reason for staying there, the availability at all times of the largest number of chicas and the fact you don't have to be walking and or taking taxis all over town at night in search of love, I really enjoy evenings at the HDR, I ignore the catcalling grappling hags and slither about in search of "that one" every night, chat her up, see if I have a "connection" where we are clicking (BangBang says attitude is the most important aspect of a chica and I wholeheartedly concur, I've walked away from many arrogant beauties and gladly picked a sweet fun little cutie with a hot bod who may not stand out in the crowd but goes to work the moment your room door shuts !) The thrill is picking her up in the bar and 10 minutes later undressing her in your room !!!
