newbie enroute to CR
As a health food & fitness nut I eat a lot of seafood (grouper Mahi sea bass is best) and chicken.

Due to CR geographical location is seafood (primarily salt water fish) a staple for the country?

I heard that usually the seafood is fresher and better on Pacific coast (quepos) where most of the commercial fishermen are?

Do the good resturaunts in SJ have the logistics set up to get the fish from the pacific coast into SJ before it goes bad?

Any suggestions on decent places near SJ? Or perhaps some good CRT threads reviewing seafood resturaunts

We're willing to pay a little extra for good quality fresh seafood like seabass, grouper, scamp, fresh water bass, mahi etc.

This will be bad on my part, as I don't remember the name of the place. I believe it is on Colon (sp?) near the far end of the huge park (and former airport), closer to the base of the mountains, and on a corner. Name is something like "hermanas". This won't help you directly, but maybe it will jog a vets memory about it. great seafood, very inexpensive. Total local place . A tica (regular girl) took me there for lunch.

La Princessa Marina is the seafood place most often recommended by members here. They actually have 3 locations one of which is near Sabana Park which was the old airport that Rearwindow was referring to. Hermanas - Marina? I'm not sure if this is the same restaurant he was talking about, but it is supposed to be great for seafood. Another great place for seafood is Machu Pichu, which has a variety of interesting Peruvian seafood specialties. And I seem to remember TMan recommending Papa Pez in El Pueblo.

Sounds like Rear Window is referring to La Princess Marina which is at the west end of Parque La Sabana (old SJO airport).

Good fresh food, mostly seafood, at very reasonable prices.

Lot of restaurants serve fresh fish. Local favorite is corvina (sea bass) and available and fresh in many restaurants. Tilapia is also widely available.
