I have been coming to CR for the last 15 or 16 years. Back around 2004 till around 2011 a bunch of us guys would met at the DR around 5. We usually had 2 or 3 tables by the door on the Ave 1 side or Blue Marlin bar. We would drink and talk about our adventures the day and night before. I met some great guys like Bulldog, Sincity, Tawgart ,VB just to name a few. Any thoughts or comments.

They are all at the Sportsmen, Zona II and Scores for Happy Hour. See you in a few days. Bring some catfish. I have the grits.

I used to ask when I would see a table or two a few years back, not that I'm a drinker, nor do I spend a lot of time at the HDR - I rec'd either blank stares, or confusion over what CRT was - so done enough times over enough time/trips, I never saw anyone fess up - I know what the OP is saying, and I'm sure it took place - I just never experienced it. :)

+1

I think that some members just don't care for the DR, for whatever reason (no Happy Hour specials, etc.).
Personally, I prefer the DR for meeting and 'viewing' for Happy Hour, since the number and diversity of the chicas is much greater at the DR than the other places mentioned.

There was never a Happy Hour it was just called that. Sure there is the Sportsman on Thursday now. But this was everyday that a new member could always go at 5 and introduce themselves. In the old days we would sit at the rail and drink and BS till CRT came along and we moved to the DR and now nowhere.

The good old days! I remember nights when CRT members had 10 tables in that lower area partying, meeting other members and watching the hot ass line up by the rail. It was like a monger convention every weekend.

And you could see the south elevator and guys would bet on how long it would be for certain chicas to be coming back down the elevator after a session(sometimes as short as 20 minutes) lol

Buzz, I have been going to the CR since 2005 overall it seems that business is just down in the gulch and the new guys going are just a different breed. Guys have quit going, guys have passed on, others, such as me, are going to different destinations,it just the way it is. IMO the camaraderie that you speak of has not existed in about 5 years. There are many reasons for it but I dont see gulch being the way it was 5 years ago and beyond for the foreseeable future.

I remember feeling like my head was on a swivel. Chicas coming from all directions and the guys just going crazy looking.

I also remember until about 2008 there being a pretty good group of guys that would hang at the rail, during the mid afternoon at the Presidente. We then walk over to the DR around five to see what was happening. That ended when the hotel went south with their policies.

Not sure what you mean when you say the new guys are a different breed? I'm new to Costa Rica, how am I "different" from you? Just asking.

Maybe by this:

Its just his opinion - but I don't disagree :)

there were happy hours as recently as a few months ago at Papis, and Joe b's and there were plenty of guys there just bullshitting and drinking at a reduced price, and a few hags as well.

Most notably a couple of years ago was the New York Bar where from 5-7 they had a HH and at 7 on the dot they rang a bell to signal it was over. Decent food and a few girls. Say what you want about the quality of the girls but they did some business....open mouth and insert foot if you comment on the guys

Although these places may not be the ground zero for the CRT army and hookers, they provided a nice diversion for those who wanted something a little different for part of the day in terms of conversation and environment
.

Seems like a well run bar/restaurant in the downtown still is a viable option...operative words WELL RUN and speaking of well run...

CHUBBS does a great job.

Their staff is well trained in customer service and in my experience it has been excellent and the food is plentiful and good as well...and there may be some conversation there but mostly frequented by a nice group of Costa Ricans young people

@Scuba....I understand it's his opinion (thanks for explaining that), but I'm just asking how I'm different from others who have been going there as he suggested. Not a tough question. I have my opinion, I just want to see if we agree. I doubt we will....
