In today's (9-18-14) AM Costa Rica ...

Agents raid three locations they say are houses of prostitution
By the A.M. Costa Rica staff

For some reason, judicial agents cracked down on three prostitution operations Tuesday afternoon and detained five men and a woman.

The agents found some 70 women working as prostitutes in the three locations, said the Judicial Investigating Organization.

The judicial agent said that the three locations were listed as pensiones, a Spanish term for a smaller hotel. Nearly every prostitution operation in the city is licensed as a pension and they contain private rooms for renting.

In fact, one expat has posted a detailed map and narrative that lists and evaluates perhaps two dozen such prostitution operations in the center of the city.

Can't be "our" map, now if it said 4 dozen....

I'm amazed they only raided 3, anybody know which 3?

I believe it was Lillian's, Portuguesa, and Paramo. Maison was already closed due to permits. The photo showed the police in the doorway of Lillian's and the others had the metal doors down. Even the bar in between was locked down. 70 might not be too far off as I have seen 30+ in Lillian's alone before. The six were detained, held for "dedicated to hiring women to sell sexually". Usually these open back up rather quickly. Anyone there know? Where do they go next if they're hitting the tico places this hard.

Hopefully some of the more popular places will not get hit. Maison's has been posting ads on Craigslist everyday for the past few weeks, including today ?

Just a few points to maybe reduce all the speculation.

1: MPs (any and all) get raided from time to time. It has nothing to do with it being a "very low rent MP" like today nor very high rent "up-scale" MPs (Divas was recently closed permanently) and M&S has been close more than once, nor "low rent places (several have been raided in the last few weeks and some closed, including the "new" 360 location downtown), nor Gringo owned places (all have from time to time been hit). The raids have become more intense with more arrests and closures in the last 6 months or so.

2: As for the suggestion that these 3 places were somehow "found out" about because of the CRT map, that is total bull crap. The 4 places on c6 2 blocks north of the Mercado Central are 4 of the oldest MPs (Pensions) in SJ and have been there anywhere from 30 to 40 years (2 maybe even longer). The police certainly have known about them probably even long before Gringos started coming here for P4P. In fact since the huge increase in numbers of police there are 3-5 police stationed right in front of these 4 places everyday!! AM Costa Rica is know for misinformation, for stating hearsay as fact, and for posting anything they can negative about P4P.

3: Did the police actually have a map showing the MPs?: Might be very true! I have stated many times before that ANYONE can read CRT and for $39 can access all the VIP areas. A police friend has told me several times about the police checking not just CRT but all the other sites as well including the Tico site (the Foro). I have known of many chicas reading the site!! This is one of the reasons the Foro allows the chicas to even post their info on the Foro. THE INTERNET IS NOT A PRIVIATE CLUB WITH IMPOSSIBLE ACCESS. Too many guys on CRT seem to think that access by people we do not want reading what we post can be controlled!! IT CAN NOT!!!! Do a Google search for ANYTHING relating to P4P and Costa Rica and CRT will always pop up with access to the posts pertaining to your search!!

Main point is the police DO NOT need a map to find any and ALL pensions/MPs located in San Jose--all have to have permits and licenses and are well known by the police!!!

3: Numbers of chicas: It is not at all uncommon for the 4 pensions and the bar to easily have a total of close to 100 chicas at times. One time I counted 64 just in the first one and that was not counting the ones that were busy.

4; The place posting on Craigslist is Maison 2 not Maison, nor la Mansion, nor Bella Maison. Maison is the place on c6 that was raided today. Maison2 is also one of the oldest MPs here (about 25-30 years) but it is now Gringo owned and is located on c4.

5: Bashful, I think you have the names confused! :P  Portuguesa is the nicest (has very nice beds and even has baths in each room), newest (was rebuilt about 6-7 years ago), cleanest (has full time maids who clean the rooms and change the sheets after each session) It also has several young, hot chicas working there including 3 who were recently working at the SL and Marial (Alajandra) who use to work at the old Gaviotas (828) and was very popular with Gringos and recently was one of the most popular chicas at 360. She is tall, thin, very pretty face and is now about 27!! Llium and Maison are the places known for having very big and very old women!!

By the way, DIVAS that was raided and permanently closed recently was one of the most popular places and catered to the "upper class" wealthier Ticos including many Lawyers, Doctors, and POLITICIANS!!! It was so discrete that never was one customer allowed to even see another customer!! At least it says the police do not play favorites!!  25 heavily armed police in black and with masks stormed the place!!! Funny thing is many of the "DIVAS" have gone together and opened a new place!!!

There is no way in hell someone is convincing me they found an und***ge chica working in either of these two places. Under-WEIGHT perhaps.

They were all opened at Noon yesterday, Thursday the 18th,

I think you all can benefit from understanding the difference between a RAID and routine inspections or follow-up visits due to a complaint

True Mike!!! The routine "INSPECTIONS" checking papers (permits and licenses) and cedulas/passports and ages have been a constant thing for a long time. They are carried out by usually less than 10 of the regular police in their regular uniforms along with usually a couple of inmigration officers, they treat everyone very nice and are polite for the most part. I have been in MPs when they came in several times and never a problem.

Over the last year the "RAIDS' have started occurring much more often. They are nothing like the "inspections". They are carried out by 20-30 special undercover police dressed in black with full head masks and heavily armed--when they raided and closed Divas, they were ALL carrying automatic weapons (mostly AK47 type). They are much more forceful and have been known to even hit people for little or no reason. In almost every case they have arrested the management and charged then with trafficking and pimping!! They have closed the place and a couple have been closed permanently. I am aware of at least 20 "raids" in the last year and every time they have resulted in a lot of problems for the MP. Some have been able to reopen the next day. Some have been closed for as much as a week. A few like Divas were ordered closed permanently!

The "inspection" on Tuesday of one of the places on calle 6 which resulted in it being closed was because of the pension not paying fees!! The "RAIDS' Wednesday of the other 3 pensions and the bar on calle 6 were just that, "RAIDS" from what I understand!!

It is awesome that you keep informed on these things, old friend.

I am guessing that the 'Raids' are one way to maintain the tax revenue flowing. But I am sure that if a single chica files a complaint, it will give them a reason to 'raid'. And I am sure that these raids look good in the wider public's eye. Good PR for the ruling class.
