Has anybody been at the Hotel Castillo since it changed hands? One reason I liked staying there was that it was right in the middle of town but had no bus fumes or other similar pollution due to the specific geography of the place. It has been quite a while since I've been in CR, but after last winter it sounds like an option again. Is Darrin still there?

I think Matt said that the sale has gone thru, but that no work will start until October. So for now at least everything is exactly the same. Can't imagine he would get rid of the staff, particularly ones like Darren who have such a great reputation on the board.

This thread has almost all the information: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=46109&start=15
In it, Matt says that Darren will be handling the day-to-day management of employees and customer relations at the Castillo and La Amistad.

Have been told the reservations through October are all good but if you want to make one for January, they won't give you a rate or confirmed room as by that time, they expect it to be in a state of remodel. Really excited to see what the new Castillo looks like...with all the room on the property, only limit is Matt's imagination and money supply.

Thank you Matt! I have reservations there for Oct 24 to Nov 3. Was worried that I would arrive just to find out there was no room available at a busy time. I can breathe easier now.

Think I'll have a beer now, Steelers just pulled one out by the hair of their arse. This has been a good Sunday after all!

There is another thread with the changes.

All the rooms will get new bathrooms, furniture, tv, fridge, matteresses....

The general area will get an upgrade

All new restaurant and bar in the back. Complete gut and rehab. Looking to put in fireplaces and glass enclosed that can be opened on nice days.

Regards
Matt

Sounds good to me as well, can't wait to see how it will all turn out. And we all know Darren is gold so everything is looking good so far! Congrats to Matt and his team.

Ah finally a North American breakfast at Castillo. It's been wanted for many years since 95% of the customers are bacon, potatoes and eggs folks.

Yup, not really looking forward to Gallo Pinto rice and beans when I wake up in the morning.

Congrads Matt. I know you, Darren and Don are first class hosts.

Looking forward to it.

Please keep the same charm that El Rancho has, it would be sadly missed.

The Rancho will be gone forever but will always live on in memory.
