just now, Saturday night at 10pm we had a routine police/MUNI inspections , and after an hour and half , every licence and permit was correct and in place and no illegal activities for the licences we have or drugs were found and all guest and girls were legal. The only problem they found was cigarette butt in the girls room (no girls smoking just a butt , this allows them to close us for the night. so we closed 2:30 hours early tonight. WE ARE OPEN AT 10 AM SUNDAY !! and regular hours and days from then on!! this is regular "doing business in CR stuff" but glad it just affected 2:30 hours of our business day!! Nothing else has happened or changes. FYI this effected the Bar only and none of are hotel guest were effected at all. also just as a side note: the police from all departments handled themselves professional and politely when dealing with are guests and customers, we were told they are making 6 more stops tonight but would not say where when they left. any questions feeling free to PM.

Thanks for the post . . . . to head-off any rumors that may have developed.

For some gringos, this can seem like scary stuff. But many of us have come to understand and expect these "inspections" as a normal part of doing business in CR. If we're legal, we should have no fear.

just curious but when you say no drugs were found do they search the rooms and personal items of guests?
and what would constitute drugs?

Sorry we had some confusion with the staff last night , one employee was told one thing and another was told by another officer another thing. So while we could have opened this morning are employee thought we would not, by no fault of their own. we are calling around to staff and as soon as i have a time today to post we will post we are open. sorry for the inconvenience! 100% regular hours tomorrow. and will update opening hours today shortly.

as to the question of drugs. I can not say with certainty, but Costa Rica does allow legal limits for personal use. it is selling that get people arrested. this is why many of you dealing with taxi cabs for your connections , always have to wait for them to go get and come back , so they never carry more than whats legal. we have been told that a rented hotel can not be searched without a sign paper by a judge. But we have seen in the past where the police try and tell people they can and people end up consenting to a search, and that makes it legal. also if you open the door and they can see anything, that allows them to search or if they see a girl they have the right to ask for her ID. but let them check in the hallways , if you let them in they can search everything. This probably does not help but it's best i can answer.

being the first time this has happened to us, you always learn along the way. while we could open. in CR they have to come and remove the sticker themselves. and while they love to give out infractions on saturday , no matter how small the infraction is, they can't come back on a sunday , so we rounded up staff for the day but we have been told probably not going to be able to send someone out till first thing in the AM. just another example of what you told not being what it really is. so see you guys Monday. and to all our guest tonight your room is free! sorry for the inconvenience !! it still a great room , sorry no food and no drink and well you know......

it doesn't really matter what the law reads on these things. If the guys with the guns tell you to do something (illegal or not) you either do it or hope that the judge will help you out.

Glad the harassment was at a minimum, Jeff.
