You can exit the building after the X-ray belt and go upstairs to the departure level, where you can get a RED TAXI to take you to the gulch for 8,000 ($16) or less. I've done it many times when I have a lot of luggage that I don't want to put on the Tuasa bus.

ORANGE TAXIS are the "official" airport taxis. The RED TAXIS that drop off people at the departure level are not supposed to pick up fares at the airport. They are supposed to leave the airport empty. But most will be glad to have your business for 8,000. Just flag them down at the departure curb and ask. If one refuses, another will be there soon.

Rac, thank you! Will do. You catch it right outside the departure entrance corridor, correct? Offered one guy (red taxi) once $20 and he wouldn't do it.

+ 1. I concur. I've done this MANY times! :!:

- Leave the arrivals area
- Go outside and walk past all the touts shouting to get you a taxi
- Walk across the street and go up the escalator to the next level / departures area
- Go into the airport terminal and exchange cash for colones
- Pay my departure tax while I'm there, which is right next to the cambio.
- Then walk out to the sidewalk and grab a red taxi for 10K colones.

By doing this, you can kill 3 birds with one stone and relatively quickly. You got your departure tax out of the way, you've got colones for your vacation and you've got a "reasonably priced" ride to the gulch!

MG

Sì, señor MG. I, too, have been doing all that for like the last 6-7 trips, just haven't been grabbing a red taxi. Will do that this time.
