Lord, don't I welcome a well-reasoned response and, Lord, isn't this sadly lacking. Mistaken in every particular and in over-all feeling. BTW, what's "gmafb" mean--I'm prolly one of them but inquiring minds want to know. Also BTW, yes, I was a Postal Worker but, no, I never delivered mail (I worked in a huge building my whole career). Also maybe you didn't read the memo but Postal workers haven't been Government workers since 1971 nor gotten what you think of as a pension (Defined Benefit) since 1984. My income comes from drawing down a 401-K-like fund, bulked up SS that I started drawing later than most and a modest Postal Service stipend. I made good choices and kept myself from hoggin' it from the goods/pleasures trough--same was available to everybody, even you.
I never mentioned and don't advocate "open borders"--we do need some monitoring and I welcome that. A bit more honesty about why they're so restrictive and who we wish to keep out out would be helpful, not least so the Border Patrol and others can concentrate on and get the funding for the real bad folks. A further BTW--it's not inapt to compare Cambodia where 1/3 of the population was slaughtered with a country living in terror and with the highest murder rate in the world--Guatemala.

Perhaps one can appreciate your good intentions but when it comes to the protection of this country....we have to protect our borders. As an nation, we cannot accept just any people from from other countries illegally invading our property. Approximately, only 25 to 30 percent of those in recent months have been under 18 years of age. There have been thousands of gang and criminals along with suspect terrorists that have gone across the border. Can we only imagine the horror they will inflict upon our country.

Are you willing to pay for them. Do you want them to have government healthcare and EBT cards, drivers ID's without insurance and all the other programs that cost us citizens. I hope not.

Certainly, you know the reason behind this invasion of hundreds of illegals flooding our borders. I won't say which political party or President......Just not trying to be political.

i grew up poor, really poor and rarely ever saw my father but we persevered and invested and i can almost guarantee i pay more in taxes annually then you earned in a typical year jizzbro
living in california we pay over 10% in sales tax on top of suffocating property taxes and things like unsecured property taxes. know what that is? tax on anything you own and use in your business already. so i took money i paid taxes on, bought something i paid tax on and the fact that i use it in a business continue to pay taxes on.
most business i deal with is outside of california because no one wants to be here.
the franchise tax board here will hunt you down to the end of the earth for a dime and fine you a dollar for not paying it on time. no innocent until proven guilty here. pay it or go to jail.
i fight for my meals and every day i need to find a new job EACH DAY to pay my obligations and finish getting my K*D a reasonable education. no way i get that in a public school system that is now primarily hispanic non english speaking K*ds. so add another 20k a year to educate a k-12 K*D if you give a shit
and i'm the guy w the corporations and too much that jizz thinks should pony up more.
the LA area is awesome and a love the diversity here, wouldn't trade it for anything. i am accepted and work w all sorts of communities and am regularly work w thais, mexicans, salvadoreans, filipinos and yes guatemalans. in fact i have standing invitations to take escorted tours of many home towns because we talk and share stories of how these places are in terms of beauty and culture. and my guatemalan friends don't take about anything but how beautiful their country is and how we should go together.
these are my friends and we respect each other. but yeah i don't know shit about what it means to have nothing. i have heard every one of their stories and nearly 100% of them came here legally and resent the influx of ILLEGAL immigration coming to the states.
the city of LA is a great place to be but guaranteed there are plenty of latinos to go around. the thought that they are peacefully reclaiming their land by inundating the system w numbers and its ok is wrong. most are uneducated and the reason they come here in the first place is to have better opportunity than what they left. want to name a country in the world that is thriving under latino leadership?

My feeling is that any subject that I can't discuss among friends without one of us getting angry is one that we may have a personal problem dealing with or one that we really do not understand. My intention was to point out that Oscar Arias, who certainly has more direct information about the problem than most of us, has a different perspective on the problem and is proposing different solutions than what is being considered in the US today. Also, I sought to draw a parallel between the underground economy that exists in the US because Latinos are not allowed to work legally and the one that exists in Costa Rica among expats because we are not allowed to work in the local economy. These decisions have economic costs (or benefits) that appear not to be considered by the policy makers in either country.

Please, let's have a vigorous discussion of the issues, but treat each other with the same courtesy we would if we were both interested in the same chica, and he got there first.

i think the point of improving their own economies first is excellent. imagine if we were able to easily set up and employ people in SJ how quick things would change.
my only issue is when an individual speaks as an absolute authority on anything. unless its scientific fact its always a fluid situation with lots of sides to consider.
i don't believe anyone wants for others to suffer in this world and all thoughts looking to generate good will and prosperity for the world are valid.
lord knows what we are doing now by throwing money at everything isn't working. if it was a genuine desire on the part of these other countries to make their people better it would help. but thats the argument for why there will always be a third world. if the peoples lives improve then the money flow would stop and what corrupt thieving politician would want that?
