Just a quick question, what is the price for a pack of Marlboro's in SJO? I think I read correctly that smoking is now banned in the bars?

If you buy the three carton special at duty free upon arrival, it is (was) about $17/carton. Smoking is banned damn near everywhere, but still can be done in places.

Most grocery stores are c1600 to c1800 a pack. Bars are usually c2000. That translates to $3.00-$3.75 a pack. As CH pointed out, deals can be found at Duty Free.

As for the smoking law, it pretty much banned smoking anywhere in indoor public places and some places outdoors like bus stops and parking lots. About the only place someone on vacation is allowed to smoke is in your hotel room (depending on the establishment) and out on the streets. Think they may have made special allowances for cigar shops like WiseAsh has as well...

Damn strange that Florida is more accepting of smokers than CR. Does that virtual smoking ban also cover e-cigs?

Yes, they went back and added an amendment to the law that said e-cigs are considered to be the same as normal cigs under that law. Cocal is really enforcing it against those of us that vape although I doubt they charge you the smoking fee for vaping in your room. Many other places don't enforce it and you can vape all day. Know from experience the police at the airport know about the e-cig part of the law.
